A Baby's Cry.

A Baby's Cry.

A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis
"

Basically, this is the dream-like state of the time before you are born. I let my imagination flow, trying to put myself into that situation.

"
There was once a time,
That I dreamed for what felt like eternity -
It was all too real,
And it left a long lasting curse upon me.

In my dream,
You appeared -
Harbouring a cold heart, but never a word.
A thought had crossed my mind -
"You and I only exist in a reality of non-existance."
So, take my hand and follow me -
Down an empty path where nobody can come between.

I think that for you,
It was only the beginning.
For me - it was the inevitable end.

For a short time, we were alone -
Our hearts were hidden,
Beneath the scars that opened and bled,
Beneath the recurring nightmares -
That the two of us experienced together.

I always had the habit,
Of speaking your thoughts for you -
You see, you and I are the same
Neither of us had been born yet.
We conquered this dream,
Our world
Our very own existance.

I stand before you,
I see a glint in your eyes -
And I know
You and I share the same thought,
The excitement
And the fear of the unknown.

I offer you my hand to take,
Perhaps the timing was fairly late -
Because you only recoil, and send me off alone.

The darkness you and I were once enveloped within,
Is the darkness that took me, leaving you behind -
Shrouded within light,
And a gentle smile upon your lips,
You waved at me good-bye.

That spot on the ground
And the atmosphere in the air
Now appeared empty,
The only trace of you -
Your smile
Is the farewell within my mind.

My selfish greed had gotten the better of me.

I had thought -
"What is the point of existing,
when the two of us could have eternity?"

It was your time,
I continued down the empty path without you -
And I could've sworn that I heard a baby's cry
Ringing in my consciousness,
You have been born -
Somehwere I could never reach you.

Author's Note

Angeliki Largatzis
I imagine that after you die, you can remember your past life because there are none of those limits to the mind that you have when you are alive. Your knowledge of your life replays until the moment you are reborn, therefore your knowledge is anew once you are born, and grow up to learn new things. Although I also imagine that there is the case of not wanting to be reborn, you fear that you'd experience painful things once again, and you back out of it.

........ok! To tell you the truth, as I notice all your poems are Free Verse, I gotta say, despite the fact that I'm not the biggest fan due to having read and heard other modernist butcher the name of poetry by calling their nonsense poetry, YOU! - YOU are a freaking Goddess at the written word. This is phenomenal. On par with "stormy seas", if not this is your new bar. I'm beyond speechless at this. There are a couple of technical notes I would like to give you:

- "our very own existence" ....though this works in its own way, the line would be better musically AND poetically without the "very". But this I leave for you to have the last say.

- "You have been born"....the whole poem has been in past, except for a few lines, which I found oddly in the present (this being one of them). Putting these lines in the past would keep the consistency of the tense, and add to the power in doing so.

Other than that, brava, my friend, this is brilliant beyond belief. "my selfish greed had gotten the better of me"....I feel yo there. I can relate to that in a way (read "Friendships"). Well freaking done!
