Longing in Dreams

 

I see you clearly

despite the haze of my dreams,

a form shrouded in mist;

silver streaked moonlight pouring

like liquid through your hair.

 

Every electrical impulse of my being

is tuned to your frequency, until

my heart is racing in time with your breath

as I reach for you with hands

that know too well the weight of emptiness.

 

Like starlight you shimmer, dancing

just beyond my grasp, until I am

no longer sure of your position,

and the terrible flutter of uncertainty

spills upward from the pit of my chest

to the core of my haunted mind.

I like the way that you wrote about seeing the man clearly even through hazy visions and with mist shrouding over the figure of the man. I think it successfully conveys the symbolism between knowing someone, but not completely knowing them, and the grasping of your hands and the uncertainty that comes at the end seems to be another version of that duality between knowing and not knowing. I think this is a very powerful poem in terms of symbolism and, of course, imagery.
