Talent, a Mile Wide

Talent, a Mile Wide

A Poem by AnnieMae

Talent, a Mile Wide

The first time we met, I remember your camera

You were not smilin, people were in your way

I sat on the bench, holdin Zelda Baby’s leash

She climbed her round body up next to me

You saw her struggle gettin her short leg up

Then came over to pet her, finally, you smiled

You bonded with her, right there at the beachside

You asked to take her picture, took 20 instead

You showed me them, shadin against the sun

I was impressed, you showed me 100s more

You sat down with us, narratin endless photos

Are you famous I asked, you laughed, pleased

The first time we met, I remember your camera

You were so intense, blisterin and bothered

A Canon 4D, I think you said, I was hooked

Then when you saw my poor girl battle her bulge

You came over and shared, clouds rolled away

We all sat together, three hours, happy to be

You bonded with us, interestin dog beach friends

I knew nothing about cameras, but love genius

You were art personified, constantly clickin

Never restin on your laurels, demon possessed

We walked with you, watched from the side

We drove to exotic locations, devoted addicts

The first time we met, I remember your camera

You were frustrated, hindered by seaside gazers

Ten years have passed, you have not changed

Mt. Whitney highs, Death Valley lows, disturbed

Drugs did not help, finally made your heart stop

You with your camera, buried, talent, a mile wide
