Emptiness

Emptiness

A Poem by Melissa

Slipping quietly into a state of aware unconsciousness,

Hearing everyone but it only sounds like ignorance.

You watch completely aware,

Yet barely there.

Your body is on autopilot,

You don't mind it.

You just stand there,

Without a single care.

The mind is racing,

As your heart is pacing.

Everyone is scurrying, living their lives,

Just like bees on a beehive.

The fog is lifting,

Now your body is shifting.

Making you fall,

Straight into the hall.

Landing in all of the people being stirred,

Just like a shepherd moves his herd.

Fighting the swiftly moving current,

You are becoming a deterrent.

When time is of the essence,

You can no longer stand being among the common peasants.

You make a lunge,

And take the plunge.

Falling, you don't care,

If you end up bringing your friends despair.

Silent and still,

This was your final will.

I really enjoyed the expression of this poem. For me, however, if a poem chooses to rhyme it should also have a consistant meter or the flow is broken and it becomes distracting. :)
