I'm Not Okay

I'm Not Okay

A Poem by Joseph Mulpeter

I'm Not Okay
with the things that i hear
the jokes and the laughter
its not okay
to say its just a joke
stop taking it so seriously
its harmless banter
I'm not okay
with what you've just said
but of course it doesn't matter
you'll probably forget
Its not okay
that there are people in this world
who can't take it any longer
from the pain that you caused
I'm not okay
with these people hurting
taking their life
It's not okay
to be the reason for their death
to say hurtful words
to be okay
I'm not okay
when you smile
not bothered or affected
whilst they have taken their life
you won't be okay
when you raise your own
when they tell you their hurting
don't leave them alone
you won't be okay
when they take that final breath
when you see what you have done
when you should have helped
you won't be okay
you'll realise your sin
you'll be left with the truth
and the blood of your kin
i'm not okay
with you taking your life
because you realised the pain
that gets trapped inside
i'm not okay
with the pain i went through
the struggle of being gay
and the hiding the truth
i'll be okay
when we all learn to love
when theres no more hurt
no more sin
no more blood
i'll be okay
the day you look me in the eyes
and say that one word
because that word will save my life
im not okay

'I'm not okay.. '

This really touches the heart and mind. It's such an honest write, gently courageous too - yet framed with power each time that three-worded phrase is used.

This writing should be read..

thank you so much :)
I really like the repetitive nature of this poem. It works really well and really emphasizes the point you are making. This is a very relatable poem, as so many are, and such a real issue too. Keep up the good work.
