A Price Worth Paying

A Price Worth Paying

A Poem by Satan

If you have been waiting on something more,

Than help me search for a key to a locked door,

Check the areas we’ve never considered before,

Remind each other why we wanted it open for.

I’ve seen tunnels bored into ancient mountains,

An unsubtle formation of dark man made caves,

These unnatural pathways have been put in place,

To improve the efficiency of the Earthling slaves.

Scientific triumphs often come at the cost of a natural collapse,

Think of all the chemicals and mining required to engineer that,

Realise how convenience became the one of the greatest traps,

Got caught on the holy road of nuclear waste and plastic wrap.

A thriving forest may be permitted to be destroyed,

If the developer can afford the government’s fee,

A price worth paying in the eyes of those so selfish,

Who never dared to escape a finite vision of greed.

Wire the funds and pop open some fancy champagne,

Toast to the collapse of our precious air generating trees,

Celebrate the deaths of defenceless unsuspecting animals,

Who were all birthed to maintain the balance and peace.

I remember when all the spirits soared,

Without rush in a meaningful direction,

The pleasant reality they had manifested,

Was one of choices and brilliant selections.

Guided and protected by the most generous loving of all open arms,

Nurtured by a mother keeping her young far away from inner harm,

Blood was shed, but not what you see in today’s wars tearing us apart,

This was when we had better sense and possessed much brighter hearts.

Her natural aura overuled any god before being back stabbed and left for dead in an open grave,

Mutilated by the one’s who for a price will preach that her power is returning one of these days,

Other empathic souls congregated alongside her, comforting her while she’s still here breathing,

We want her to mend while many push her closer to death, until she’s at ease I’m never leaving.

I don’t want to see her go out in pain like this,

We can’t afford to give this last chance a miss,

I dry my eyes before I give her a reassuring kiss,

I need to focus if I want to reach a state of bliss.

If you ask me, it’s a price worth paying,

The ache of dealing with a mother’s pain,

No matter how much I want it to go away,

It remains there breaking her all the same.

I don’t have some switch I can flick off to ignore someone in distress,

I just want all the burdens of the Earth to fall upon my slippery chest,

I will never be fully satisfied until I see this world as its absolute best,

I hold the highest of all expectations and won't ever settle for any less.
