Wheels of Fortune Always Turn

She told me at the center

The wheels of fortune turn

And they keep turning and going round and round

My heart beats and my skin is pulsating

In my mind's eye- my wheel spinning, spinning,

Spinning out of my control and it never stopped

Winter lays all around as chill creeps up and down my spine

My lips freeze as I consciously slip out of the my warmth into the night

I called back my soul and it came home only to return out again to nowhere

Now we go back out into the cold, cold night to explore

Afraid to know and afraid to ask the one does the wheel hold in store for me

Silently I wander out into the night against a slapping wind

Moonlight dazzles strands of wild hair and illuminates wild eyes

The eyes glimmer and glare back at me but I am not afraid

These creatures of the nights, sent to me in my time of crisis

Guide me through this night that I might reach the other side unscathed

The fox and the bulldog met me there, menacing creatures but not for me

I trusted the universe as I stepped out into that night

With each step forward towards the night - away from past comforts

No question enough to stop me from boldly continuing into my night

That night out the front door knowingly and into the forest

My quest, yes, but the wheel of fortune, she is still spinning for me, for you.

She said I took my chances, but chance I knew would find me

I am scared into my bones and done to where my flesh meets the bone, tingling.

I set my intention - still taking my chances, breathing in release of the outcome

The winter laps around me, the child, the mother, the roles we play for ourselves

Hints of what lays ahead lay around me then - a dream of new work, new selves.

Myself.

That wheel just keeps on spinning, doesn't it? Whether it be a little thing or life changing event, we are sometimes shown kindness, sometimes shown no mercy at the hands of fate, yet we seldom think that right now, where we stand, is the place that such fortune brings us, for good or bad. We are all here thanks to that spinning wheel, making decisions for us, we can only hope that kindness shines on the next spin. Fingers crossed :)
