Didn't See That Coming

Didn't See That Coming

A Poem by April Child

Just one of those days I guess

when a single moment

changes everything.

Fell off the edge of the earth

watching my old life

rush away, like

looking backwards

through a telescope

What should I do?

I will make soup.

And that's not just me being all matey!
You have a great tecnnique, and manage to convey emotions and imagery so well. And your final lines are fantastic! Kinda bring the reader back to reality....I hope you keep writing....:)

Yes, even in those instants when we completely get lost in our most unmanageable thoughts, something calls us back to life, often in a most concrete disguise. It's the endless swing between our inner universe and the outer world, so incredibly intertwined in umpteen combinations. Such a good intensity in such a short piece, very well done.

I love your poems in general for the constant presence of unusual and stimulating images that always depict a vivacious portrait.

Arf, arf...yet again you make me laugh. This is great. The tsumani crashes over you yet you are still standing. There is really sharp wit and a wonderfully refreshing pragmatism in that last line. Some might search for all kinds of philosophical this n that. But what's the point? The last line does not need explaining and does not need expanding into some grand system. It is just common sense, English pragmatism in the face of life's annoyances.

lol. do not underestimate the power of soup.

i relate to the first lines of the poem so much. i love the telescope image.

the end was a little surprise but had a heartfelt sort of "well just try to enjoy the simple constants of life" sentiment.

Make it something good, like chicken soup with strips of breast in it and baby carrots! Great write, April!

I thought the "make soup" line was a bit random, but...haha, I loved it!
