Precious Boy

Precious Boy

A Poem by Lydia Thacker
"

A poem for the boy who is my heart.

"
The sweetness of laughter
from your smart little mouth
keeps me smiling years later,
though I'll never know how

you touch my heart
in the ways that you do
for it clenches like a vise
when you say, "I love you."

You tell me your dreams
of what will be when you grow:
the things you will see,
the things you will know.

Grey eyes light up
as you speak to me
of pirates and treasures
and things in the sea.

You would teach mathematics;
you would dig in the sands,
finding dinos and kings
as you travel the lands.

The look in your eyes as you dream
gives me strength;
to see them come true,
I'd go any length

-- move heaven and earth,
even travel through time
to give you a life
which is better than mine.

So, come, let me hold you,
My Angel, My Love,
and I'll sing of your dreams
and gifts from above.

Rest your head on my shoulder
as our voices entwine,
Eric, Precious Baby,
sweet child of mine.
