A Poem by Art

Valley Of Dreams

Sitting

Quietly by the window

There is a thought falling from the sky

Within those simple questions of why

Those boundaries of despair

Crouching along egoistic realities

I am locked within a dungeon of philosophies

glancing with the cranium

Intellect corrupted with emotional drains of life

Absorbing this madness

Running wild across this barren turmoil of ideologies’

I cannot accept

Those embedded views of constant reminders

Humanity lost among them selves

Crying the shame of idol gods

No understanding of wisdom

Hidden within the depths of the soul

As I watch the sky of hope

The window is my barrier of sanity

It’s illusion of blue incorporating my acts of process

Reflecting upon those questions

Narrated by the decisions of mayhem on the loose

Sexual orientation has no longer become an issue

Survival already crossed that barrier

Even though the polygamists and foreign harems can’t

Quite come up to par

Sitting

Quietly by the window

My eyes don’t need to touch death

For imagination can fly the skies as

It rides the wind and carries to my mind

Sitting at the table

Starvation slips past my senses and yet

I know it is a tragedy

My other senses crawl from within my belly

Reminding me of where I truly am

I see no warlords outside my window

Or warships among the skies

Blackwater mercenaries

Haven’t secured my backyard

Yet the closeness of drug wars blends into my thoughts

No one ask me who I am or where I came from

ICE is not at my door even though I do have brown skin

Acknowledging immigration issues is not my assigned position

While the society of where I live wages war and hate to end its condition

Beneath it all the past comes to the forefront

Color still laughs at the concept of discrimination

Even political cries and laws of its nature exist

Brown, black, white

Native

Latino, Asian, Foreigner

Terrorist among religious fanatics

Homegrown warriors fighting against their own

Sitting

Quietly by the window

The sky turning to gray

Tomorrow will bring more of the same

And soon the setting sun

Will lay darkness upon my eyes

Oh Art. This is a classic. I love how you have wrapped the truth in such a wonderful cover and presented it to us. I can feel the deep angst , sorrow, hidden despair and anger of the speaker amongst the context of a changing society with its changing issues, changing focuses..It's a beautiful read specially because the background was perfect for the emotion to unfold when u unfolded it..Great piece of poetry. And top draw stuff on your details ...

Ha-Ho,
The depth of your poem reaches even those who live in a bubble. Thanks for playing my brutha's music, reminds me of my past going to peyote meetings with my father in Lake Andes, South Dakota., minus the guitar playing. Good memories!
Life and light to you and yours!

In your poem you took me into many directions. I'm 1/2 Ojibwa and I watch the world going crazy. Description and story was amazing. This is a poem you must read many times. A outstanding poem.
