A Poem by Art

Reaching into the Past

Looking across those waters of yesterdays

There within the clouds of history

Among the Rockies and across the plains

Into escapades of peace pipes and sage

There with my brothers and sisters

Paving dust with our feet

Filling the winds with our ancestors

Dancing drums of a people

With spiritual strength of mountains

The valleys are not deep enough to elude us

From that wisdom of eagles

Our presence

Crosses rivers and minds

Souls that fly like dream catchers

Into colors of feathers

Survivors of atrocities

Within our own land

Still we live

Still we survive

Still we are

As when we first were

Native to a land

This poem is just amazing, it sings from a knowing of the earth, of blood that sings for life and era, this stanza reminds me of my "Dream catcher" so much so I checked the posting date, lol, sorry, great souls think alike I suppose, beautiful, so beautiful Art, it's hard for me to articulate my appreciation, "From that wisdom of eagles Our presence Crosses rivers and minds Souls that fly like dream catchers Into colors of feathers" I love it.

I love everything this piece stands for... and that majestic connection with the land and all its creatures.. has always fascinated me.. the thought of encountering a wild wolf and watching life take place before urban civilisation cluttered up the beauty of the natural world.. a very moving piece....the flute so mournful, reverent, just divine..

A beautiful poem of hope. But I see little left for the Native American . History will remember a beautiful and free land lost to the greed of wealth and waste. A excellent poem.

Very impressive write. All stories need to be told truthfully and I think you did a wonderful job on this one. Nicely done in poem form, makes for better reading and getting important stories out there for others to read & learn.

Very, very powerful poem - well written with great sensitivity and reality of the indigenous folks of our country.

I really, really like your poems like this, poems of the human condition of all the peoples in this country.

Ha-Ho, Very awesome poem! Thanks my friend for sending me your words. I have many to read and will be doing that most of the week and enjoying my new coffee maker. I love this time of the year. I feel bad some two-legged's are having a bad time upon Creation. Life and Light to you and yours!
