Morwena, a Sindarin name mean ‘Joyful under the Stars’

Notice: The meaning of Morwena's name, it is NOT direct sindarin translation. I have invented it myself.

One of the daughters of King Aragorn II Elessar and Queen Arwen Evenstar Undomiel

Morwena’s tale

Morwena was born during the Fourth Age, no one knows the exact day, to the High King Aragorn II Elessar and  Arwen Evenstar Undomiel, Queen of the Reunited Kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. She was a younger sister to Eldarion, who was Aragorn and Arwen’s son and the future King. One name of the daughter was found, surprisingly in the Red Book of Westmarch which Frodo had given to Sam after leaving the Middle-Earth. When Sam left from his home after his wife had died, he left his book to his daughter who found an unknown, short chapter in the end of the book. It was named ‘Morwena’s tale’.

Morwena was named after Morwen,  the daughter of Baragund and the wife of Húrin Thalion and the mother of Túrin Turambar. Morwen was tall, dark-haired and beautiful and Morwena was distantly related to her through her mother, Arwen Undomiel. Morwena reminded her ancestor very much in appearance. She had dark hair and her eyes’ color was grey. She was tall, taller than her other siblings. Only Eldarion was taller than her. Morwena loved to travel, after she reached age of consent, she traveled around the Middle-Earth. She even went to see the Shire, but as her father had ordered that no man or women should not go there, she only visit the hobbits outside the confines of Shire. Samwise probably met Morwena on one of these trips.

She was interested in plants and herbs and in particular their ability to heal. Like her father Morwena knew among other things that Athelas also known as Kingsfoil was a healing herb that grew throughout the Middle-Earth. She had the gift of healing. Once Morwena saved one of Sam’s daughters life with Athelas. Forever grateful Sam admitted Morwena the right of passage through the Shire. Still she never did that due to his father’s regulation.

Many praised her beauty and compared to the beauty of her mother or even Morwen or Luthien herself. Her eyes were like cloudless starry skies. Her hair shone silvery. Her facial features were delicate, although the corners of her mouth were strong, whenever a smile spreaded over her face, her face lit up shone inner light like those noble High Elves of Lórien.

After her mother died in broken-heart (after Aragorn’s death), in the year  121 of Fourth Age , Morwena gave a command to build a monument at Cerin Amroth in Lórien for them.  Many lovers visited the spot remembering them. And many who had a broken heart found a peace from there. Nowadays it has disappeared since many people forgot the place. You can find it if your heart truly is really in need of that.

Morwena herself never found happiness. As Half-elven or Peredhil (they were called so because of their extremely mixed Adan or Edain (Man) and Eldarin (Elven) blood), she had to choose to be Elven and immortal, or to be of the race of Men and accept the Gift of Men which is death. Morwena experienced this really difficult. She loved an unnamed man who was one of his father’s adviser. In spite of his high status, he was quite young and very handsome as been told in Morwena’s tale. He loved sailing and he was a master sailor. They loved each other deeply but one day, the man did not return after he had sailed far away to the Great Sea.

Then Morwena spoke (so it has been told) with frangible voice; ‘Prophetic was her (Erendis) name but my fate is not to be worthy of my name’. (The name Erendis may have originated from the Noldorin words er "one, alone" and dîs "bride", which would be prophetic for the unfortunate events of her life). After this tragic event Morwena was never again ‘joyful under the stars’. In loving a mortal man, she had made her choice to stay a mortal. For many years she traveled around the Middle-Earth. She also visited her mother and her father's monument in Lórien but never again she did not found peace. What happened to her after that nobody knows.  Many believed  that  she experienced her mother's fate, and died of a broken heart. Others believed that she went by boat to the Great Sea to seek solace from songs that told about Undying Lands to which she no longer had access. But last mentioned option, it was not very likely, because many  knew that she hated even seeing the Great Sea after she lost her fiancée.

Maybe she rest in the same place as her mother.

The last is a quote; " For mine is the choice of Lúthien, and as she so have I chosen, both the sweet and the bitter."

And so ended Morwena’s tale.

Between the back cover of the book Sam’s daughter found a few drawings of Morwena and Aragorn’s and Arwen’s monument in Lórien.
