The maiden of The Shadowy Forest

The maiden of The Shadowy Forest

A Poem by ~Sarah~ Idríel The Fair

Under the silver leaves of the poplars

      in the shadowy forest,

where the wind moans

in front of the coming winter.

There she wanders aimlessly,

her shadowy hair sparkling in

the light of the rising moon

the lightest in steps,

the maiden of the shadowy forest

dancing in the starlight,

her shadowy hair send  you to sleep

and you will see the dream of

the Western Lands

and by her shadowy hair

she weaves a spell over you,

the lullaby of the maiden

of the shadowy forest

and she told

' Ai, once I danced

under the silver leaves of the poplars,

in those days when the forest was still young

and in the woods the sun was shining.

But there was an ancient spirit,

deep in the heart of the forest,

and the forest was given a new name,

and the shadowy forest wanted to

keep Emëriel dancing in the starlight '

There she is dancing, the lightest in steps

forever in the starlight of the shadowy forest

because of the spell that keeps her.

Once Emëriel met by chance a man

who was lost in the shadowy forest,

loss for words as he watched the maiden

and her shadowy hair sparkling in

the light of the rising moon.

Then the spell also landed on him

and he asked the maiden’s name,

‘ O Emëriel, the silver maiden of

the Woodland of the North, I am ‘

she said with the vivid voice of her.

‘ Ai! nearby of the stream of Yngwir

and the water  falls (of Lord of

the Waters) Emëriel used to dance

and sing of the Western Lands of

the Gods!

I used to dance to the

music along with other,

Emëriel the light-foot!

Now I dance alone,

and alone forever. ‘

There she is dancing, the lightest in steps

                    with her love

forever in the starlight of the shadowy forest

because of the spell that keeps them.

A beautiful poem my friend. You create visions of myth and beautiful dance. I like the places you took the me. I like the positive ending. Better to dance with another than alone. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
