Glimmering hair of Lady of the Sea and the tale of the Lonely Seafarer

A Poem by ~Sarah~ Idríel The Fair
"

( And the song of the Maiwë * )

"

Glimmering hair of Lady of the Sea and the tale of the Lonely Seafarer

( And the song of the Maiwë * )

O wailing gulls of the mighty Sea

roaming foams and Uinen

a slender Lady of The Sea

and her long hair glimmering

shine faintly with a wavering

light of greenish blue

spread through all surface of water.

The waves are dancing happily

as lonely seafarer looks whereas to the West,

remembering those old songs of the sea

bottomless like the deepest pool of

the lonely shadows of Ulmo’s hair.

Wind sighs, the sea-gulls have come

and lead the mariner to the dark waters.

The tumultous waves of Ossë roar

as the slender Uinen, his spouse

she calms with a graceful voice.

The water glimmers like

greenish stars under the dark sky

illumined by the stars of Varda

The Blessed.

O such a graceful voice rose through

from the bottom of the Seas

a slender and a vivid voice of her

Uinen, she is singing

singing with intensifying voice

‘ Come, O come all you creatures of

         The Seas!

It is day of the feast! ‘

Her ivory skin and

   seashells adorned

her glimmering dress

and a crown made of coral

in her hair.

The lonely seafarer looks whereas to the West

of the pearl-white shores of the blessed land

beyond the reach of the Men

where slender Uinen sings and

the gulls of Ossë are wailing.

* maiwë (pl. maiwi) is a Quenya noun meaning "gull" (as in "seagull").
