Did they know?

Did they know?

A Poem by ~Sarah~ Idríel The Fair

Did they know?

Nicholas

The day had come, as my father passed away.

Duty, I felt it heavy on my shoulders.

Much suffered Job.

I stepped onto the balcony and as the sea roars,

I was struck by the voice of thousand people

cheering at the same time.

The world is falling into chaos.

The land is covered with blood.

Darker than it was before.

It all started with blood.

Did they know?

Newborn

The day had come, as I held my son in my arms.

The one who will be the hope of his people.

My beloved son, only a babe in arms,

smiling so innocent, without a doubt.

“He will have a better life”, I thought.

But how wrong I was, I came to know

at the bitter end.

Oh did they really know?

Seventy eight days

The day had come, as I kept my son in my arms,

when we were walking down the stairs.

Much suffered Job.

The world has fallen into chaos.

The floor is covered with blood.

Darker than it was before.

It all ended with blood.

What they were doing?

Nicholas; Forgive them because they do not know what they are doing.*

My goodness, such a dramatically phrased poem, Sarah! . You've transcribed history very finely, made it come alive yet of course, was such a bloody and tragic period. Your words travel almost slowly, pausing at times, then.. continue until the bitter end. Suddenly, the poem stops as you ask that question. The end. That world did indeed fall into chaos...

According to a statement by the Moscow synod, they were glorified as saints for the following reasons:
In the last Orthodox Russian monarch and members of his family we see people who sincerely strove to incarnate in their lives the commands of the Gospel. In the suffering borne by the Royal Family in prison with humility, patience, and meekness, and in their martyrs’ deaths in Yekaterinburg in the night of 17 July 1918 was revealed the light of the faith of Christ that conquers evil.
Your write has resplendently and sensitively encapsulated the final hours of on that ill-fated day! Very good composition … :-)
