Aquae Magnificum

Aquae Magnificum

A Poem by Ashira Macy
"

Only the title is in latin.

"

It glitters like crystals in the sunshine,

So calm.

Smooth as silk spun tenderly with love,

So clear.

Turbulence forever a possibility, I watch on

In wonder.

Below the surface of its dynamic body

Magic resides.

Creatures swim with so much grace beneath

Turquoise tides,

Reefs yield sanctuary to brilliantly

Hued fish.

Magnificent giants travel in their

Devout bands,

Brought together by common

Communal ambition.

This whole alien world hidden below

The waves

While all I bear witness to is its

Shallow artistry.

I like the calm, easiness of this verse. The description turquoise tides evokes lovely imagery. The last 2 lines bear double meaning for me. Shallow artistry means minor magnificence compared to what is underneath. Also that the shallow artistry has magnificent beauty in itself.

The ocean is a whole other world isnt it? We behold only the skin of the ocean and revel in its beauty (As you say..."Shallow artistry") when in fact that's only one layer of its wondrous multi-faceted splendour. This one was wonderfully written, no word was wasted, quite an instructive display of an economy of words. And the latin! I have always had a penchant for latin, its words are so beautiful, the heart and soul of the English Language. Well done!

This is a very peaceful read. It reminds me of a song called Oceania by Bjork. Nice work :)

Thank you DJ, I adore the ocean.
This flows like the water itself, and makes the reader ponder what beauty lies beneath the surface. Nicely done, Ashira!

my pleasure :)
To me, as reader, the poem is all about appreciation and the ability to appreciate. It is also about the knowledge that there is a world beneath the world, a world not always visible to the eye, but perhaps visible to some other less physical human organ, say the imagination or the soul.

That is awesome, thank you so much C. Rose!
This is excellent. Conveyed so skillfully. The thoughts roll down the page into the poet's creative heart. I enjoy the form, the flow and the bright message.
