One Lone Tree

One Lone Tree

A Poem by Ashira Macy
"

For Cynthia.

"

In the middle of a grassy clearing

There once stood a willow tree.

And though it was alone for years

Its leaves still rustled happily.

Autumn came and Winter too

Then Spring carried a new surprise

As right beside the willow tree

A rosebush started to arise

A friendship bloomed with budding roses

And blossomed through the years

Until one day the willow tree

Was brought to wistful tears

The sun shone bright upon the pair

The weeping willow could only pray

As the man dug the roots up with great care

And carried the rosebush away.

Now the Summer heat has come and gone

And the Fall nights hold no glee

As all that is left in the clearing now

Is that somber, one lone tree.

This is the first piece of yours I've read and i have to honestly say I am already a fan. I am new, and I love poetry and this poem is so emotionally stirring and powerfully beautiful and yet in such little amount of words and such perfect simplicity forgive me if I seem overly excited. This reminds me of a loved one and this has really touched my heart and I am very excited to read more of your work.

Aw, I am so sorry! You are correct, it is a very emotional write.
wow! really nice...i especially liked the last stanza. i was wondering, though, why you chose a rosebush instead of some other plant.

Thanks so much Minstrel, will do!
This is absolutely beautiful, and I miss you. I'm at a loss for words (and on a writing website too, for shame). Your poetry is amazing, and this poem fits everything perfectly. (I also love the one lone tree reference :))

How I love the willow. Your poem was haunting, but quite lovely in its telling.

Thank you kindly Kelly, I really appreciate it!
This is a very sweet poem, but you need to work on the last stanza. It doesn't seem to fit with the other verses.

Thank you Marie, I was wondering about that. I will work on it.
Romance can blossom in the most unlikely of places and between the most unlikely of people, pity though when someone else chooses to interfere and spoil it !

A beautifully penned, bittersweet personification, the willow & rose bush are a creative metaphor !
