What’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told?

Your longest running fib?

How many times have you fooled your friends

With words that you made up, adlib?

 

Although there’s variations thereupon

I can tell you mine for sure

It’s time to give away my wealth of secrets

And to make myself poor

 

My biggest lie

It’s time say

Is of course

I’m okay

 

They keep on asking

How you feeling

And the answers are just

Lies, lies, lies

 

We await opportunities

To tell someone else how we feel

But throw away our chances

When we could reply with something real

 

When they stretch out a light

To those in the dark

We blow out the candle

 

When they throw a rope out to sea

To haul us back to the boat

We open our mouths

And let the water flood in

 

And the question we need to ask

The response to our answer

Of ‘I’m okay’, is

Why, why, why

 

Why do we turn down the help

Why do we not trust our friends

Why do we have this reflex

 

Here’s what I would say to that

We are scared to admit where we are

Scared that our friends, our family

Won’t help but would ask

 

Why did you turn off the lights

Why did you jump into the water

Then tell us to help ourselves
