Dance Before Dawn.

Dance Before Dawn.

A Poem by Karina Anderson
"

It was inspired by the picture, that my friend sent me. An image came to mind, and so I wrote a poetic story around it, giving them their own story. First I've written in a while.

"

With painted nails and numb fingers, she waits for you.

Eyes dripping wet, doubt fills her meager bosom line.

Last minute and you make your presence known,

Bring in the blistering night; pull it around you, so divine.

Coming face to face though neither of you can see,

Masks delicately placed, intricately crafted, like your lie.

Moon over head; it washes the night air with white.

Your dance begins and across the meadow you fly.

Soles of your shoes not making a sound, placid.

Limbs encapsulate her in a tight vise grip, permanent hold.

For a moment, comfort is given to her, though it is false.

If only you could give her all, if only you could be bold.

Fear, apprehension, emotions piling up and ready to burst.

She’s come too close; now it’s time to let go before disaster.

But before you go, lean in to brush lips, the sweetest kiss.

A lullaby of untrue hope and dreams promised to her.

Night sky changes cast once more, dawn comes out to peak.

Palms slipped past her porcelain white cheek, she shivers.

You sense the hold you have on her, become hesitant to go.

But stealthily you escape, like a tree that never timbers.

Caught between the breaking day and this nostalgic night.

She bows her head; the concealment falls away to reveal,

The most striking face of a girl, lost without any affection.

Risk taken, body shaken, life altered, and all she can do is feel.
