Recipe for a Human Being

Recipe for a Human Being

A Poem by Daniel Wojtach
"

The makeup of your standard model human being.

"

Here, young children

Is how we make a human being

It's a simple recipe

With a very simple theme

We start off with the body

Made of muscles, sinews, bones

Salt to taste, sweat to baste

Mold each one so it's its own

Then we go on to make the mind

The inner filling which changes

The very flavor of our subject here

Shows how they fare in their skin cages

Start with a base of fanaticism

The will to grab a hold and not let go

To follow along and watch

To expand upon what they know

Then add curiosity

For life and death and more

A mind which aches to grow

Fill itself with facts galore

Mix in an ego powerful

One which makes them eager to impress

All those who surround them

Until their tragic death

Sprinkle violent tendencies

Justifications for their war

And tears for every single

Bleeding massacre

Fear, terror

Not being able to keep it together

Are necessary ingredients

Don't forget to throw them in there

Hate and ignorance

Following fools

Zealotry and intolerance

Foreign ideas met like mules

Within each one

Dabble kindness and puppet strings

Minor heartbreaks

Passionate flings

The ability to love

And kill when it is stemmed

To hold another in their arms

And snap them

The spark of creation

Profound thoughts, if you so please

To show up in the mind of man

Should there ever be the need

Crushed ice for cold shoulders

Different dyes for different skins

An eye which claims to understand

But can never truly begin

Shouted arguments

Shared tears

Cuts too deep

To stop the fears

A mouth full of gossip

An ear full of void

The feet which will blister

Judgments they can't avoid

Dreams of tomorrow

Where things aren't so bad

And a heart which whispers

Won't happen, my lad”

Genocide and extermination

Washed down with guilt

Followed by relief

Getting ready for another blind jilt

Stuff them with a candy heart

It starts out sweet

Kind in childhood times

Before it festers given the heat

Flooding emotions

A forever rocking sea

Make these humans quite tasty

For you and for me
