Acting

Acting

A Poem by Daniel Wojtach
"

A story of masks and puppet strings.

"
Some people act for entertainment
To give the masses what they want
But others act for different reasons
To save their very sense of self

To feel your lifeblood stripped away
To feel scrutinized for being you
I can only imagine how it feels
To have to put facades up over yourself

Everyone will wear their masks
And puzzle about who it is they really talk to
What that plastic smile truly covers
A madman or an artist?

To act like we are controlled
To act like we actually believe
To change our wavelength for others
Such is the nature of humankind

Who is it that actually braves their soul
Faces the world with arms wide
And no shields but their own will
A much more valiant being than I, I'm sure

Who really believes in being a marionette
Who actually thinks our fear is needed
What drives us to give pain yet fear it as well
We truly cannot hold ourselves together

We are without glue
No needle and thread
To mend the broken parts
Of these soulless mannequins

We fear others because of words
And make others fear us through our words
We fear our world and resort to playing roles
We fear ourselves for our human meanness

This was kind of spur of the moment, so I really can't judge its worth. Thoughts?
