My Tuneless Song

My Tuneless Song

A Poem by Atton Brown
"

This was me, after I had decided to give up on life...

"

Memories, memories plague my mind

Plague mankind

Everyone wishes they could forget that time

A time, any time, a time of regret

Forget

That they messed up so bad

Want to forget that mistake

For God’s sake

My mistake made others so sad

But he’s always so damn mad…

Damn dad

But I refrain

And I feel it tedious to dwell on the pain

That I cause, that I tolerate

I feel it unnecessary to dwell on the hate

Just know it exists

And persists

Sits

There in the back of my skull

This push, this pull

The battle in our hearts

While we search for our parts

Our parts in this play

This life, this fray

A fight for freedom, a fight for peace

Truth and understating before we decease

And I call out, please…

Remember who I am and not who I appear to be

Remember those I loved and hold dear to me

Forget the façade and the masks, now it’s clear to me

Just remember me…

It’s called the past because I’m passed it and the present cuz it’s a gift

But in the future when I’m gone, why would you just sit and sift

Search and rifle

Through my old things, stifle

A tear or two

Wishing I’m near to you

Why would you do that after anyone leaves?

They wouldn’t want for you to sit and grieve

Their gone forever, they know you love ‘em but you can never see ‘em

Carpe diem

And live, embrace each day as though it were your last

Move forward and put your behind in the past

No wait…your past behind you

Don’t sit around and let the anger unwind you

Take a deep breath, and send up a prayer

Ignore the ignorance, the negativity, the naysayer

And do what you want, what you feel

What you feel is right and always be real

Be true to whomever you choose to be

But make sure its You; not her, him, or me

And on your everlasting quest to be internally free

I simply ask that you remember me

Remember who I am and not who I appear to be

Remember those I loved and hold dear to me

Forget the façade and the masks, now it’s clear to me

Just remember me…

I feel like I’m saying the same thing over, repeatedly

Tediously, needlessly

Trying to save

Before you’re enslaved

Throwing up the words but actions right behind them

Refine them

Fine tune them before you execute

Restitute

The meaning

And they’ll be left feening

For you cuz you’ll have power

And they’ll just cower

Because they’ve all put you down and in their eyes

You’re weak, but not it’s your time to rise

To rise like I’ve hoped you finally can

I sincerely hope you understand the task at hand

I pray you realize that it’s time to change

You can’t go on like this, though it’ll seem strange

It’s time

Ours not just mine

And as you augment and ascend

I hope you never forget me, your friend

Remember who I am and not who I appear to be

Remember those I loved and hold dear to me

Forget the façade and the masks, now it’s clear to me

Just remember me…
