Author's Note

Mother Maggie
I was born in a time
of flame and smoke
when the sun’s relentless fire
burned and dried the world
to ash and dust
I am the man
from where the Devil pisses

Wise men fear my coming
the brave quake in their boots
at my advancing footsteps
I am the man
from where the Devil pisses

No ambrosia ate I
nor sweet nectar sipped
my fast broken on brimstone
my feast imps and demons
my mother’s milk—mephistic ooze
from Lucifer’s own latrine

Darkness like the tomb
heralds my arrival
the birds still their song
grave business brings me
I am the man
from where the Devil pisses

Bolt your doors
shutter your windows
look not upon me
I am the man
from where the Devil pisses
pray I do not come for ye…
