The Day My Brother Learned To Fly

The Day My Brother Learned To Fly

A Poem by Hippy
"

its about my brother but from my point of view with me in his shoes and how i see it happening

"

I got high as i could

Ripping my ice

Taking a hit

Blazing it up

Then snorted a line thick as my thumb

I was rolling hard

Harder than ever before

When I set up my rope

And took out my ladder

I stood there thinking

At the end of my rope

Of all the things I've thrown away

All the people I've saddend

All the ones I've hurt

A tear rolled down my cheek

As my saddness thickend

I looked for a reason

One to keep me here

I saw nothing...

This time...

So I kicked back

As hard as I could

And thats the day I learned to fly

Out of this world

And into the sky

As you know...I lost a loved one to a gun, Ive also lost an uncle to a rope and a tree...sucicide seems to haunt me....

I cant critique this, its intensely personal, and I know it hurt to pen it. And it doesnt make any you less for crying when you wrote it. If I could say anything...Id like to see more anger....but that comes in time...you know where my corner is.

i like how in the beginning of this you make it seem like it's just going to be a piece about drugs and how awesome they are but then you take a serious turn and make us realize that you're not writing this from your point of view but from your brothers.
this is really a great piece you've got here. i enjoyed reading it and it serves a purpose.
well done.

I don't know how only a tear crossed your face while writing this. It's such an emotional write. I really like the lines:
"And thats the day I learned to fly
Out of this world
And into the sky"
It's kind of uplifting in a way as if he's not gone just flying above.
