Morning

Morning

A Poem by Austin Skye Elsborg

Soft velvet flows over my body
Wrapping me up and keeping me warm.
Engulfed in a sea of feather blankets
As the snow buries me in a silent tomb
Laid to rest until the dawn awakes the world,
lighting my face with a glint of gold.
It melts the snow from around the folds of fabric staying the chills.
Birds croon, singing me a song of wonder.
Melodious notes hitting tones beyond me.
Washed in light, the world screams to be noticed.
Spinning alone with all the company one could imagine.
Leaves brush off the snow,
sending it to the earth surrounding the girth of the trees.
Their trunks are anchors to a world ruled by insanity.
Emotion and hidden motives driving desire of innocent beings.
I creep out of my safe bedding
into the glow of a new world ruled by the sun.
Squirrels chitter at me as my feet crunch
on the icy crust insulating the dirt,
preserving fallen leaves, brown and rotten.
Skeletons of a past year, slowly fading
into the memory of minorities as we all move on.
