The World in Orange

The World in Orange

A Poem by Avery James

Pop a few

(Give it a second or two. Patience is key.)

savor the rush.

Soon my knees

can be added to the bowl of mush.

It's a superb feeling

(More of the fact that I don't.)

keep it coming.

Dancedancedancedance

have a seat but feel like I'm running.

Wake up in the morning

     (Where's my f*****g bottle?)

and only crave more.

It's a simple concept,

besides I feel sore.

Now I have to

(When was the last time I really saw you?)

I can't let them go.

Hold that bottle tight

never let anyone know.

It used to be two,

(Is two all that really used to do it?)

give me at least five.

Need that orange heaven,

just to feel alive.

"Honey, you look tired."

     (Why is she saying that?)

I always feel fine.

Leave me alone!

Did you just break a line?

WHAT THE F**K!

     (Who stole them?)

Surely I didn't swallow the rest.

Dial every number in my phone,

Methylphen? Psh. I only buy the best.

Oh God. It's finally here

     (What an annoying seal.)

I've been dreading this letter.

"We regret to inform you...

You can do so much better."

I feel like a failure

(What is this emotion? I don't remember.)

I know what will fix it.

Eight will make me forget,

up the dosage a bit.

Faces begin to swirl

     (I'm feeling kind of scared.)

Who handed me these beers?

My head is an empty bubble

with marbles in my ears.

I really honestly quickly need to leave-

(Where did I park? Did I even drive?)

stupid girls' faces covered with white of chalk.

I stumble and drop my orange heaven

as my face hits the side of the walk.

Don't look at the pictures

     (I really did look tired.)

with their gaudy oversized frames.

Who are all these people?

I never knew their names.

You never deserved this

     (Oh Momma. Please don't cry...)

Promise. Don't go in my room.

From every angle nook corner shadow

Stacks of orange bottles loom.

I don't own any poetry, except for Poe of course, I suck at writing it and frankly, i just don't like it. But WOW, I loved this one! It was awesome! I think if i ever did start reading poetry, it would be this dark type of poetry. You are an incredible poet. The following line twisted my stomach while i read it...
"Oh Momma. Please don't cry..." Just wow!

Oh my, this is great.
You have a great style of expressing ''obsucre'' truths. I like the rather strange way in witch you present the addiction and the shame.

This is so intense. The way you go into every little thought, feeling, and emotion...just amazing. The thing I love about this one is how it puts the reader into the shoes of the author...and you do it so well. This is such a moving poem and it just rocks.

wow. this is an extremely emotional, powerful poem. i cannot even begin to tell you how much i can relate. & i love the way its laid out here. you've described the perfect 'addict' here, constantly dwelling on it, constantly looking for it, constantly worrying about getting more, needing more & more, & not being able to recognize how sad their life has become. i loved this poem, definitely going in my favorites. "From every angle nook corner shadow Stacks of orange bottles loom."& the imagery of the orange bottles is brilliant. a very creative, dark piece.
