Balance

Balance

A Poem by Brette Medb

Each tree beats with the blood of the earth,

Pounding with the eteranl life,

The mysteries of Mother Earth.

Balance; the basis of all things.

Male, female, light and dark

None can live where the other lacks.

In the deepest of oceans,

Black as ink

Swim the fish with phosphorescent veins.

The flowers that bloom

High on the mountain top

Both male and female organs

To continue on the cycle of life.

So how is it man is the only species

Which descriminates against one or the other.

Men are superior to women,

Darkness is evil where light is good.

The race is without balance and thus

Destroys itself from the inside out.

We seek knowledge

Become angry when none is found.

Dig pits within the earth

To understand mysteries beyond our grasp.

Balance in all things,

Yet where there is none

Life cannot flourish.

more of a commentary than anything else but something I believe to be all too true.

It was a lovely read till I got to the words Black as Ink, it somehow broke the flow for me. But I like how it transformed from a nature poem to a social commentary on the left hand of darkness (feminism). It's a topic that I admire a lot, and I hope you write more in this same style and vein. I have enjoyed reading your poems B., I hope you keep them coming fast, because I'd review them all with glee!!

Take care,
Michael

Its like an opening to an urban word jazz, or slam party. Thoughtful and mellow. Evocative and visually rich. Great stuff. I have to laugh at the immodesty, it's not that under the top! I like it.

This is a very interesting piece of writing. You've expressed something true and essential in my opinion. I'm not bothered by the phrase "black as ink." In fact I think it's one of many really vivid images here. You might want to edit to give it a more cohesive flow. Now some of the lines seem rather unconnected (and maybe that just me and the way I'm reading it). I think if you'd join them up more with transitional words, so you have more complete sentences rather than phrases, I think it'd be even more powerful. Great read! Thank you. ;-)

Balance in all things,

Yet where there is none

Life cannot flourish... You've neatly tucked so much in this. Balance in and of nature really doesn't get the credit it deserves. Excellent writing, my friend.

As the story tells, Mother Earth, we love her, we cherish her and in return, she nourishes us. Beautiful piece Brette.
Blessed Be...
