Breaking the Mirror

Breaking the Mirror

A Poem by Basil Piazza
"

Changed life. Changed world.

"

She tries to perfect the worlds affections

by hiding behind her own reflection

stuck in a mirror

stuck in a mirror of hating oneself.

This sound proof self

held against the glass,

Fists against your dying glance

losing all control

this is the breaking of your soul.

The mirror bends backwards

Bones snap

As you try to catch a single glance

One last glance

the fading of your soul.

But alas,

 your soul is no more.

stuck in the mirror

stuck in the mirror

trying to find or hide

or bind your mind

from freedom,

from feeling a sense of self.

Running from everything you ever knew to be you,

Erasing your face in the chasm of the human race.

 Light,

Your linght bends at the

mirrored wall

bending out the window,

bending down the road

so far gone,

but

you can’t escape yourself.

You cannot  erase yourself

you cannot tame yourself to

fit this troubled world

you were never meant to be

a part of a world so broken-

so please,

child brace yourself for

brake yourself, this is

the falling out of you,

The falling out of view

of everything you knew

to be true-

they are all

lies

so let them die.

Becoming new

Becoming clean

Becoming you

Set the captive free.

You know,

I find myself in losing everything

I tried to become

Everything I tried to be, gone

I am finally free when I break that mirror

Against the tree, In the shattered pieces on the floor

Fragmented but wholly, me.
