The Good Earth Assures Me that God Exists

The Good Earth Assures Me that God Exists

A Poem by James Horsley
"

Written on this rainy day, while sitting on my back porch. God is good.

"

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:  And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

-Matthew 6:28-29

The rain and lightning sing praise to God,

while nourishing his good creation,

making the hills green again after winter's frosty chill.

Does ever the grass doubt his benevolent presence?

Do the trees shake their heads in disbelief?

This masterpiece which sustains us

may be wiser than we could ever hope to be.

It is right that we should try and understand,

to explain,

and to reason.

This creation both delicate and mighty

ought not be taken for granted.

And there is merit, I believe,

in understanding the life-cycle of a star,

in reckoning at the nature of subatomic particles.

Well learned men have done wonderful things.

They have built sprawling cities,

sent ships to the moon,

cured sundry maladies,

and invented remarkable tools for work and leisure.

No man, however, placed the stars in the heavens.

Can a human produce existence from non-existence?

People did not create birds,

with their hollow but strong bones,

able to soar with the highest confidence,

perfectly placed feathers ruffling wonderfully in the wind.

Only the Supreme Engineer

could design the flawless structures

inside a tiny leaf,

breath life into a miniscule seed and produce a towering tree.

Does the oak doubt the truth of this statement?

Even Powerful empires are like children's toys,

when sat next to the magnificence of a lily.

And I believe the Divine can easily be seen

in the first steps of a smiling baby.

Perfection-

nowhere in human nature is it found.

Nowhere in human invention is it found.

But everywhere, all over this self-sustaining earth,

in the the natural order of existence,

it is readily observable.

Those with power wonder if God exists.

The tiny flowers know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he does.

I couldn’t agree more! All great works be of God, man’s abilities as small as they are were granted by Him. He gave us the power to move mountains, and we question His existence…

Great Write!

I was raised in a Christian household and went to all private Baptist academies, so I agree with you that the earth show's God's handiwork. This is a beautiful poem that is a great reminder to everyone that there is a God...I mean this whole complex world did not start from some random big boom. Great work!
