I Miss You

I Miss You

A Poem by Beautifully Tragic xPoetry Queen
"

Dedicated to my grandmother.

"

You were the fabric

That held this family strong

Kept everyone at their best

No matter what went wrong

You were a friend

That I could count on

When I could find no one else

When I felt so alone

I sat there beside you

At your last moment on earth

Talking to you, holding your hand

A moment with so much worth

I prayed my hardest

Didnt want to let you go

Felt so rather selfish

Only 'cause I loved you so

Broken memories hang

In the depths of my heart

Even the memories I wish to forget

That day we had to part

I miss you still

All the years that you've been gone

But I know its you smiling at me

When the sun goes down at dawn

I can fully relate to this piece. My great-grandmother died when I was in 5th grade, still unclear about the whole meaning of life and death. All I remember was that she gradually weakened, still I always went to her but I couldn't see the difference. She loved me so much. Then one day, I woke up to find her gone. I was just a small kid but I still long to tell her how much I loved her. The time since her death has been plentiful and enough to dim my memories of her. Yet, some of them are so strong that I would carry them to my deathbed with me.

Sorry, i got a bit carried away back there. Your poem was very emotional and I loved it. It spoke so much about how 'I' feel and maybe besides myself, many readers can relate to a similar experience.
Great job. Keep writing. :)

Rayne, Grandmothers are the backbones all families. When my Oma died, the family split in all directions. You were lucky to be able to talk to her before her death and say your final goodbye to her. Thank you for sharing this emotional poem with us.
