A Poem by Beccy

It was only base metal and paste,
polished, if slightly scratched glass,
but the look in his eyes said
that to him, it was pure gold
with a diamond brighter
than all the stars
that shone at night.

“Look at this mum,” he said,
“It was only two pounds
“what do you think?”

I made no reply save with my eyes,
his yearning thoughts, though thin as air
laid all his untold secrets bare;
and had I dared so much to breathe
it would have broken all the spell,
the moment that he dared to tell
the tumult of the heart within.

“Well, I think she’ll like it,” he said,
“it shines like her hair.”

Lovely poetic anecdote, Beccy.
Deeply touching and thoroughly charming.

Without doubt, this is one of the most beautiful poems I have encountered here to date filled to overflowing with innocence and unconditional love.....Neville

Beautifully beautiful. That's what love's about, that's a lad who'll become a real man with a heart intact and forever his mum's darling boy. Takes a wise guy who realises that a cared-for daisy picked in the rain will last as long as a rose bought with a credit card.

Becky, your writing touches where so many other poems do not. Eyes open, the heart flutters emotion... and your reader disappear off and away feeling alive with.. your words. Thank you - love this poem...

A young man always seeks the approval of his mother. She's the first girl we fall in love with after all. This was sweet and poignant; a moment captured in time. I enjoyed.

it isn't how much the gift costs...the value of the thought is what counts....

Monetarily only £2, yet through the innocent eyes of a child his newly acquired purchase was priceless, as it was a gift of Love!

A heart warming poem, endearingly penned!
