A Poem by Gustan Joseph

I locked myself out of the room again,
Echoes for help full the stairwell.
And as the day light turns quickly to night
I watch this town become a jail cell.

It’s always scary when the lights go out,
Broken tree branches stretch the windows.
Close my eyes pretend I’m laying in bed
I close my eyes to the things I don’t know.

So tell your daughters to stay home tonight,
Lock your doors close the curtains.
You see the shadows of a lonely man,
His outside quietly lurkin.
