As Innocent’s Slept

Three children asleep in the bed that they share,

Next door total chaos...were they all unaware?

His face had been slashed, the young father was bleeding,

“Leave it for now John!” the young mother was pleading.

Earlier she sensed danger she knew something was wrong,

But he just wouldn’t listen... and then they were gone.

When he first introduced him she spotted a knife,

In his new “friends” coat pocket...she feared for his life.

It was a few hours later that he banged on the door,

His face was cut up, his blood splashed on the floor.

He went for a knife he was in a mad rage,

She tried to control him for what seemed like an age.

Shouting in anger “Nobody does this to me!”

He was going back to get him despite his wife’s plea.

Eventually she convinced him to stay in for the night,

And revenge?  It would come when the timing was right.

All through this drama the innocent’s slept,

Protected by their mother as she quietly wept.

He’d been stabbed many times as he fought in the bar’s,

Could this mother save her children being left with the scars?

I think this is pretty good. It's short and to the point. The rhyming works well and adds to the story.
