Drowning

The waves crash noisely

crashing into the rocks

along the shore.

Along the shore, I walk,

I walk upon the sand

The sand squishing between my toes.

 

Wading out into the ocean,

the ocean waves frigid against my legs

my legs go numb with cold

and the cold rises

rises higher

and higher

and higher

until my chest is covered,

covered with black water,

black water that rises

rises higher

and higher

and higher

covering my mouth,

my mouth and my nose.

 

I couldn't breath,

all of it burned,

burned in an icy fire,

and icy fire that consumed me,

consumed me in death.

 

In death,

In death I'm at peace.
