In The Garden

In The Garden

A Poem by WynterPhoenix

In the garden was a flower.

The first to bloom in the spring.

The most vibrant of any color.

No one knew the joy it’d bring.

In the garden was a bee.

Buzzing loudly, tired and busy.

Upon this flower he’s content.

Taking in the miracle, milking its beauty.

In the garden was a butterfly.

Floating about with the saddest face.

Fascinated by this brilliant flower,

Encouraging, gifting grace.

In the garden was a bird.

Whose song had gone away.

Enchanted by the delicate blossom,

She sang the best song today.

In the garden was a child.

Sickly and frail, barely holding to life.

Captivated by the dying flower.

She too, wouldn’t fear the strife.

In the garden was a flower.

The first to bloom in the spring.

The most vibrant of any color.

No one knew the joy it’d bring.

Today I was watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and the family on there was simply amazing. Words cannot describe what I felt while I was watching it. The 8 year old daughter had contacted the design team, but not to rebuild her home. She wanted them to paint the hospital she stayed in when she was diagnosed with cancer. She wanted to add bright happy colors to all of the rooms so the other patients would get better. She didn't ask for anything in return, which is rare for a small child. Usually it's "I want this, I want that." In their words "to her it was 'I want you to help me help them'" In the end, they ended up rebuilding the family home as well. One of the designers wrote a book for the little girl called "Love Comes First". It was about a little butterfly whose colors were starting to fade and her parents took her from their tree in the forest to the healing tree so she would get better. I wrote this poem, to teach you that the smallest thing can make a difference to so many people. Including something as small as the first flower of spring.

Even without the back story, this is an amazing poem!

Isn't it amazing how love and grace can flow from a sick child and those of us who are healthy and want for nothing stand and whine. I agree with you this was a beautiful thing to witness, well written!
