Operation: Monte Carlo Ep. 5 Set Fire to the Third Bar

Ninette tries to uncover the secret behind her late assistant's employer and Yuuto tries to uncover some of his past by visiting a psychologist. What will they find? Will the truth be too much?

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT/MORNING.

          Ninette is sitting in the study holding a document, Yuuto is

          asleep beside her. She looks at the document.

                              NINETTE

                         (to herself)

                    Cosette?

          In the morning, Yuuto wakes up to Shinobu working at his

          computer. Yuuto rubs his eyes. Shinobu turns and sees him.

                              SHINOBU

                     Good morning, starshine! How's the arm?

                              YUUTO

                   It's good, thanks for asking. What are you 

                   doing here so early?

                              SHINOBU

                    I came to repair yours and

                    Ninette's cell phone. Plus, Daisuke

                    wanted us all here for the

                    briefing.

                              YUUTO

                    We're not going to see Watanabe.

                              SHINOBU

                    No, he needed to speak to Daisuke

                    alone.

                              YUUTO

                    Oh, is it something bad?

                              SHINOBU

                    Didn't say.

          They hear the front door open. A few minutes later, Kazuo

          walks in with his suitcase.

                              YUUTO

                    Welcome back.

                              KAZUO

                    Thanks.

                              YUUTO

                    Find what you were looking for?

          Kazuo smiles.

                              KAZUO

                    I think so.

          Yuuto smiles back.

                              YUUTO

                    Well, you must have found something

                    or you wouldn't be smiling like

                    that.

                              KAZUO

                    Let's not talk about it right now.

                    How did everything go while I was

                    gone?

                              SHINOBU

                    Well, Yuuto and Ninette got

                    kidnapped by genius university

                    student that decided to give us

                    puzzles to figure out so we could

                    save them. My wife is pregnant so

                    I'm staying out of sight as your

                    main researcher. Daisuke...

          Daisuke enters.

                              DAISUKE

                    Is pissed. Ninette is gone.

          Yuuto and Shinobu stand up.

                              YUUTO

                    What do you mean gone?

                              DAISUKE

                    She went to Watanabe this morning

                    and told him she was doing this

                    mission alone.

                              KAZUO

                    She gets kidnapped twice and now

                    she wants to play the hero?

                              DAISUKE

                    She told him it was personal.

                              SHINOBU

                    How personal can it be?

                              DAISUKE

                    I don't know. Watanabe didn't even

                    know.

          Shinobu sits back down at his computer and starts typing.

          Yuuto walks away from them to the window.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ishikawa, I'm glad you're back.

                              KAZUO

                    How is my sister?

                              DAISUKE

                    She's fine. She helped us out a lot

                    couple nights ago.

                              KAZUO

                    That's good.

                              DAISUKE

                    How did your search go?

                              KAZUO

                    I feel better now.

                              DAISUKE

                    Are you still mad that I'm dating

                    your sister?

                              KAZUO

                    Yeah, it's going to take a lot to

                    not make me mad at you for that.

                              DAISUKE

                         (Sarcastic)

                    Well, I glad you didn't change that

                    much.

          Kazuo smirks at Daisuke and walks out of the room.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yuuto.

          Yuuto turns.

                              DAISUKE

                    You were with her last night,

                    right?

                              YUUTO

                    Yeah, I actually fell asleep

                    helping her look through the left

                    over files that we didn't turn in

                    to Watanabe. I didn't hear her

                    leave.

                              DAISUKE

                    Anything you saw while you were

                    awake that might have sparked

                    interest?

          Yuuto shakes his head.

          Ryoichi walks into the room. As he starts to say something,

          Daisuke interrupts.

                              DAISUKE

                    We have a missing princess.

                              RYOICHI

                    Where is she now?

                              SHINOBU

                    Suginami Ward.

          Everyone turns toward Shinobu.

                              DAISUKE

                    How did you find that out that

                    quickly?

                              SHINOBU

                    We have three other sectors to

                    track down, correct?

                              DAISUKE

                    Yeah.

                              SHINOBU

                    And we've already taken down the

                    North and East sector. All that is

                    left is West, South, and Center.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yeah, and how did you narrow it

                    down to the West sector?

                              SHINOBU

                    I looked up the data that Watanabe

                    sent me that was a more organized

                    form of what we found about a week

                    ago. The Sui Sector is headed by

                    Minoto Shizuka, who is a business

                    woman in Suginami Ward. Her office

                    is the office that approves all of

                    the weapons that come in and out of

                    the Japanese military.

                              RYOICHI

                    She's tied to the weapons that we

                    found at Saita Corps.

                              SHINOBU

                    Watanabe had all of those weapons

                    checked and all of them were signed

                    off by her.

                              RYOICHI

                    So, there is someone in the

                    military giving her military

                    weapons to give to the yakuza?

                              SHINOBU

                    There has to be or it would be

                    impossible for them to get the

                    weapons.

                              DAISUKE

                    What does this have to do Ninette?

                    Is Ninette going after this woman?

                              SHINOBU

                    Minoto is responsible for all of

                    the international affairs of the

                    yakuza. She has a connection with a

                    woman named Cosette Laroque.

                              YUUTO

                    Cosette Laroque was Ninette's

                    assistant, the one that was killed

                    at the banquet.

                              DAISUKE

                    So Cosette was actually a spy for

                    the yakuza?

                              SHINOBU

                    I don't know for sure, the file

                    just says that there is a

                    connection.

          Kazuo enters.

                              KAZUO

                    I heard everything, what's the

                    plan?

          Daisuke looks at him.

                              DAISUKE

                    How did you?

                              KAZUO

                    You guys talk really loud for

                    special agents.

          Daisuke refocuses.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, we have this new

                    information. Yuuto and Ishikawa,

                    head to Suginami and try to track

                    down Ninette.

                              KAZUO

                    Can we narrow down our search?

                    Suginami is quite large.

                              SHINOBU

                    We have no way of narrowing that

                    search down. Minoto doesn't have a

                    home address or a permanent office.

                    There is no way to track her down.

                              YUUTO

                    That's not helpful.

                              DAISUKE

                    While you two are there, Kawano and

                    I will speak with Watanabe-san

                    about getting a liaison from the

                    military to give us more

                    information about any missing

                    weapons. Shinobu, you can stay here

                    and work or you can come with

                    Kawano and I.

                              SHINOBU

                    I need to go to my lab anyway, so

                    I'll come with you. I'll try to

                    retrieve any DNA from the weapons

                    that were found at Saita.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, let's move out.

          EXT/INT. APARTMENTS. MORNING.

          Ninette is outside of apartment 4D. She pulls out a bobby

          pin from her hair and starts to pick the lock. When she

          unlocks it and opens it, she walks into a well decorated

          room. She walks over to the computer on the other side of

          the room and slides in a flash drive. The computer turns on

          and fills in the password. Once it shows the desktop,

          Ninette starts searching around and finds an email

          application which she pulls up. She starts to read through

          all of the emails and becomes horrified. She pulls her flash

          drive out and walks out of the apartment. She looks over to

          see a woman standing there looking at her. It is MINOTO

          SHIZUKA.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Are you Princess Ninette?

          Ninette reaches in her purse for her gun.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Don't try anything stupid.

          Ninette stops.

                              NINETTE

                    Who are you?

                              SHIZUKA

                    That I will reveal later. I must

                    ask why you were in my assistant's

                    apartment.

                              NINETTE

                    Was your assistant Cosette Laroque?

                              SHIZUKA

                    Yes she was.

                              NINETTE

                    And you know she is dead.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Yes. It is sad that girl had to die

                    so young.

                              NINETTE

                    I want to know how she was

                    associated to you. Did she have any

                    connection to the Sakamoto yakuza?

          She pulls out a card from her pocket and hands it to

          Ninette.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Come to my office and I will

                    explain everything about Cosette.

          Shizuka walks away from Ninette. Ninette looks at the card

          and looks back up at where Shizuka was.

          EXT. SUGINAMI. NOON.

          Kazuo and Yuuto walk up the steps of the subway to the busy

          streets of Suginami. Both look around and then look at each

          other.

                              YUUTO

                    It is going to be a long day.

                              KAZUO

                    You said it. We don't have a lead

                    or anything.

                              YUUTO

                    Well, we do but its very vague.

                    There are several business

                    buildings in this entire ward. It

                    would be a miracle if we found a...

          He spots Ninette on the other side of the street. He points

          at her.

                              YUUTO

                    Is Ninette a lead?

          Kazuo looks over to where he's pointing. Yuuto starts to

          cross but Kazuo stops him.

                              KAZUO

                    We follow her. Don't let her know

                    that we know where she is.

                              YUUTO

                    But...

                              KAZUO

                    If she needs assistance, then we

                    will interfere but until then, we

                    go unnoticed. She wants to do this

                    alone, then we give her that

                    satisfaction. Call Uchida and tell

                    him we found her.

          INT. DIH. NOON.

          Daisuke and Ryoichi are standing in front of Kenta's desk.

          Kenta is sitting.

                              DAISUKE

                    That is why we need a liaison for

                    the military to help take this

                    group down. If we stop their weapon

                    supply, we stop their enterprise.

                              RYOICHI

                    I can help find a proper liaison.

                    Most of the men who were in

                    training with me are probably

                    captains by now and know their way

                    around.

                              KENTA

                    Who did you have in mind, Kawano?

                              RYOICHI

                    Matsunori Nobu, sir. He was a good

                    friend of mine during training and

                    he takes his job very seriously. He

                    is one of the best.

                              KENTA

                    Very well. I will contact him as

                    soon as possible. Do you have any

                    idea where our missing princess is?

                              DAISUKE

                    We just received a phone call from

                    Takanori. He and Ishikawa have

                    found her in Suginami Ward and are

                    keeping a eye on her.

                              KENTA

                    At least we didn't completely lose

                    her. And Ishikawa is back, so that

                    helps out tremendously. Anything

                    else that I need to know?

                              DAISUKE

                    That is all, sir.

                              KENTA

                    Alright. I will contact the

                    military and schedule you to see

                    Matsunori. If you can, try to get

                    information on which base is

                    sending out the weapons. Knowing

                    that will be a big help to your

                    cause.

          In Shinobu's lab, Shinobu has a lab coat over his suit. He

          is scanning for matching fingerprints on several screens.

          Ryoichi and Daisuke enter.

                              DAISUKE

                    Have we found anything interesting

                    yet?

                              SHINOBU

                    Nothing. The only fingerprints that

                    are on the weapons are from

                    Furusawa and Minoto Shizuka. I

                    can't find any prints from anyone

                    in the military.

                              RYOICHI

                    They're careful. They don't want to

                    get caught.

                              DAISUKE

                    Kawano, who in the military are

                    allowed to sign out weapons?

                              RYOICHI

                    Depends on what branch you are

                    talking about. Anything above

                    colonel can in the army and

                    airforce. In the navy, the rank is

                    anything higher than commander.

                              DAISUKE

                    That will help narrow it down a

                    bit.

                              SHINOBU

                    So anyone above colonel and

                    commander. I will need to get those

                    records from Watanabe-san. You guys

                    need to go help Yuuto and Ishikawa.

                              DAISUKE

                    They've found her and are keeping a

                    close eye on her.

                              SHINOBU

                    Oh, well what else is there to do

                    on the research end?

                              RYOICHI

                    We still need all the information

                    we can get on Minoto Shizuka.

                              SHINOBU

                    Good luck on that. Her data cannot

                    be tracked anywhere. The only

                    reason we have her fingerprints is

                    because she was...

                              RYOICHI

                    What?

                              SHINOBU

                    She was in the navy. Minoto is not

                    her real surname. When I found the

                    match, I was wondering if she had

                    been married because her surname

                    changed but her name was never

                    legally changed.

                              RYOICHI

                    What is her real name?

                              SHINOBU

                    Kojima Shizuka. She was honerably

                    discharged from the navy ten years

                    ago after twelve years in service.

                    Her highest rank was commander. She

                    was the one of the few female

                    officers ranked that high.

                              RYOICHI

                    So we're talking about the navy. I

                    know nothing about the navy.

                              DAISUKE

                    What about Matsunori Nobu?

                              RYOICHI

                    Unless he went over to the navy

                    after I left, he's still in the

                    army.

          Shinobu goes to his computer and starts typing.

                              DAISUKE

                    Maybe we need to look for someone

                    who has better knowledge of the

                    navy. If she still has connections

                    to some of the men that work there,

                    that's where she is getting her

                    weapons from.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm sure that Nobu will be of some

                    help.

                              SHINOBU

                    We lucked out.

                              RYOICHI

                    Lucked out? How?

                              SHINOBU

                    Matsunori Nobu transferred to the

                    navy four years ago and is

                    lieutenent commander. He's going to

                    be a lot of help.

                              RYOICHI

                    Well, what do you know? How did we

                    pull that off?

                              SHINOBU

                    Now that we know what branch she

                    served, it makes it easier to track

                    down the culprits.

                              DAISUKE

                    I guess we'll be on battleships

                    next week.

          EXT/INT. RECRUITMENT OFFICE. MID-AFTERNOON.

          Ninette walks through the front doors of the office. Yuuto

          and Kazuo are watching her from across the street.

                              YUUTO

                    A recruitment office?

                              KAZUO

                    Now we know the ties to the

                    military weapons.

                              YUUTO

                    But recruitment offices wouldn't

                    have much to do with that.

                              KAZUO

                    It's the person on the inside we

                    have to worry about, not the

                    office.

          Yuuto spots Shizuka across the street and notices her

          gestures as she walks into the office.

                              YUUTO

                    I found her.

          Yuuto runs across the street.

                              KAZUO

                    Yuuto!

          Yuuto runs inside of the building. The man at the front desk

          looks up.

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Welcome to the Suginami recruitment

                    office. Would you like to join the

                    army, navy, or airforce?

          Kazuo walks in behind him.

                              KAZUO

                    I'm sorry about that. He's not here

                    to join. He's ill and ran in the

                    wrong building.

          He takes Yuuto by the arm.

                              KAZUO

                    Isn't that right?

          Yuuto looks at Kazuo and then back at the receptionist.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm sorry.

          The two of them walk out. Kazuo shoves Yuuto.

                              KAZUO

                    Do you want Ninette to know we're

                    following her? Do you want

                    Minoto-sama to know that we are

                    onto her?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't trust that Ninette can do

                    this by herself. They have gotten

                    her three times already and she's

                    just walking into a trap, I just

                    know it.

                              KAZUO

                    You underestimate what she can do.

                    She's a very strong girl and you

                    need to realize that.

          Yuuto looks away from him.

                              KAZUO

                    I know you care about her, Yuuto,

                    but you don't need to be so

                    protective.

                              YUUTO

                    Alright, what do you suggest us do?

                              KAZUO

                    We find another way in.

          Kazuo walks away to the back of the building. Yuuto looks up

          at the building and begins to follow Kazuo.

          Inside Shizuka's office, which has a few plants and

          bookshelves, a desk and a few chairs, Ninette is sitting

          holding a 9mm close to her. She looks nervous. The door

          opens and she jumps up and aims the gun in that direction.

          It is Shizuka.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Are you always this nervous, Miss

                    Pascal?

                              NINETTE

                    Only when I'm in the presense of

                    someone who wants to kill me.

          Shizuka laughs.

                              SHIZUKA

                    When will you learn that we don't

                    want to kill you? If you don't have

                    my master's money to return, he

                    will have to have you, unharmed.

                              NINETTE

                    That doesn't change the fact that I

                    don't trust you.

          Shizuka closes the door behind her. She walks slowly over to

          her desk, Ninette follows her with the gun. Shizuka reaches

          her desk and sits behind it.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Please, sit. I am unarmed and do

                    not wish to hurt you.

          Ninette sits and lowers her gun.

                              SHIZUKA

                    So you came to learn about your

                    late assistant, Cosette, is that

                    right?

                              NINETTE

                    I want to know how she is

                    associated with you.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Well, first you need to know about

                    her. She came from France about

                    seven years ago to go to school but

                    could not afford to stay. At the

                    time, my master's son went to the

                    same school and fell in love with

                    her. He pitied her and asked his

                    father for the money to keep her

                    here. To repay the money she had so

                    willingly taken, we came up with an

                    ingenious plan to have her work for

                    us as a spy.

                              NINETTE

                    Is this the same son that payed for

                    my hand?

                              SHIZUKA

                    Yes.

                              NINETTE

                    Sounds like he has a thing for

                    foriegn girls.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Yes, he does. When he saw you in

                    Monaco, his feelings for Cosette

                    became non-existant. This broke her

                    heart and she became vengeful. The

                    only thing she wanted in the world

                    was him so when the time came to

                    retrieve you, she stepped up. We

                    sent her to your father five years

                    ago to become your assistant and

                    doppleganger. Her true plan was to

                    kill you but we told her that if

                    she didn't cooperate, we would have

                    to take drastic measures.

                              NINETTE

                    She was my assistant for five years

                    and no one ever suspected anything?

                    Not even my father?

                              SHIZUKA

                    She was a very good actress. When I

                    heard of her death, I knew my plan

                    was destroyed. She was the key to

                    make it work.

                              NINETTE

                    What plan?

                              SHIZUKA

                    Cosette was going to take your

                    place as princess of Monaco.

          Ninette's eyes widen.

          A few minutes later, Ninette walks out of the building,

          confused. She starts to walk down the street but runs into

          Yuuto.

                              YUUTO

                    Ninette, are you okay?

                              NINETTE

                    Were you following me?

                              YUUTO

                    Um...no... I wasn't.

                              NINETTE

                    Please don't lie to me, you're

                    horrible at it.

                              YUUTO

                    Fine, Ishikawa and I followed you

                    to make sure you were safe.

                              NINETTE

                    Fine. How did you find me?

                              YUUTO

                    By chance.

          Ninette looks away from him.

                              YUUTO

                    Are you alright?

                              NINETTE

                    I need to come back tomorrow. I

                    couldn't take in everything right

                    now.

                              YUUTO

                    Take in what?

          Ninette looks at him. She grabs his arm and starts down the

          street.

                              YUUTO

                    Wait a second, we need to get

                    Ishikawa.

          INT. HOTEL/RECRUITMENT OFFICE. MID-AFTERNOON.

          In a simple two room hotel room with twin beds and a couple

          of tables, Ninette is sitting on one of the beds. Yuuto is

          leaning up against the wall.

                              NINETTE

                    I can't believe this happened. My

                    own assistant was a spy. How could

                    this happen?

                              YUUTO

                    Why didn't you get her to tell you

                    the entire plan?

                              NINETTE

                    I just realized that my assistant

                    was a spy for the yakuza and was

                    after my head. I have a lot going

                    through my head right now and I

                    don't think I could have handled

                    the entire plan.

                              YUUTO

                    So, what are you going to do now?

                              NINETTE

                    I'm going to go see her tomorrow. I

                    want some time to clear my head.

                              YUUTO

                    Do you want me to take you back to

                    Ishikawa's?

                              NINETTE

                    No, I don't need Daisuke chewing me

                    out for anything. I've found her

                    and I want to take care of her.

                    This is personal.

          Yuuto turns away from her and leans against the wall.

                              NINETTE

                    Yuuto, please be on my side for

                    this. I want to prove to everyone

                    that I can do something like this.

                    I want to take responsibility for

                    my father's mistake. Please, let me

                    do this.

          Yuuto's phone rings. He walks outside, closes the door and

          answers.

                              YUUTO

                    Hello.

          Kazuo is standing out front of the recruitment center. He is

          enraged.

                              KAZUO

                    Where the hell are you? I've been

                    standing out here for about an hour

                    wondering where the hell you were.

          Back at the hotel, Yuuto stays calm.

                              YUUTO

                    Ninette ran into me and she brought

                    me to this hotel.

                              KAZUO

                         (over phone)

                    Where are you? I'll head right

                    over.

                              YUUTO

                    Don't.

          At the recruitment center.

                              KAZUO

                    What?

                              YUUTO

                         (over phone)

                    You know what it is like to take on

                    something personal. You fought

                    Furusawa on your own, let her deal

                    with Minoto.

          Kazuo is silent for a moment.

                              KAZUO

                    Fine. At least she is not

                    completely alone. Take care of her,

                    Yuuto.

          Kazuo hangs up.

          Yuuto hangs up the phone and walks back into the room.

          Ninette is still sitting on the bed with tears running down

          her face. Yuuto walks over to her.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm here to protect you, but I will

                    let you take care of this on your

                    own. (knells) Just please, don't go

                    in there without me. We'll walk in

                    together, we'll walk out together,

                    but I'm going to let you take care

                    of her by yourself.

          Yuuto grabs the box of tissues on the bedside table and

          hands her one. She takes it, smiles, and nods.

                              NINETTE

                    Thank you.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT.

          Daisuke, Ryoichi, Shinobu and Kazuo are sitting in the

          dining room, the chef bringing out food for them. Daisuke

          seems frustrated.

                              DAISUKE

                    That girl is going to be the death

                    of all of us.

                              RYOICHI

                    How did she get the information

                    about Minoto?

                              SHINOBU

                    There was a whole box of files that

                    seem irrelevant to the case. She

                    must have found something we

                    missed.

                              DAISUKE

                    And she has Yuuto backing her up on

                    this. He needs to stop letting her

                    walk all over him.

                              KAZUO

                    He's falling in love.

          All of them look at at Kazuo.

                              DAISUKE

                    Love? I'm not sure he can handle

                    love.

                              KAZUO

                    He doesn't know it but he is. With

                    what little we know about his past,

                    he never felt much love growing up

                    so he doesn't know what it feels

                    like. If he thinks that letting her

                    have what she wants is love than

                    that's what it is to him. He'll

                    protect her until the ends of the

                    earth if he has to.

                              SHINOBU

                    It kind of reminds me of how I

                    acted when I met Natsumi for the

                    first time. She is my first and

                    only love but I couldn't show love

                    then if you asked me to. I don't

                    think anyone really knows what love

                    is.

                              DAISUKE

                    Surely you do. You've loved Natsumi

                    since high school and you married

                    her. Now, you have a baby on the

                    way. You must know what love is.

                              SHINOBU

                    Everyone's interpretation is

                    different. I'm sure Kawano thinks

                    love is different from mine.

                              RYOICHI

                    I thought I knew love when I

                    married Eri. I felt a new kind of

                    love when my son was born. Then

                    there was another feeling when Eri

                    passed away. You don't know how

                    much you love someone until you

                    lose them, then its clear. I

                    honestly didn't think I could love

                    someone again after that. I loved

                    her more than anything.

          Ryoichi starts to tear up. He stands and leaves the room

          quickly. They all watch him go.

                              DAISUKE

                    Probably shouldn't have brought

                    that up.

                              SHINOBU

                    How long has it been for him?

                              DAISUKE

                    Two years. He's tried to raise his

                    son by himself and keep a job. He's

                    lied to his son about what he does

                    to keep in safe. He's had a lot of

                    his shoulders.

                              KAZUO

                    Poor guy.

                              SHINOBU

                    What happened to you? You were

                    never sentimental until you came

                    back. What happened?

                              KAZUO

                    I found out why my soul was

                    missing.

          Daisuke and Shinobu look as each other. They look back at

          Kazuo.

                              DAISUKE

                    And?

                              KAZUO

                    I went out to the country and I met

                    someone.

          Shinobu and Daisuke lean in.

                              SHINOBU

                    What's her name?

                              KAZUO

                    Jun.

                              SHINOBU

                    Very nice. Anything else?

                              KAZUO

                    She has a son.

          Shinobu and Daisuke back away.

                              SHINOBU

                    Is she married?

                              KAZUO

                    No, no. She was never married. It

                    was hard for her to talk about

                    because she was taken advantage of.

                              DAISUKE

                    Oh, does she trust you?

                              KAZUO

                    I don't know if she trust me. I'm

                    sure if I was in her situation, I

                    would have a hard time trusting

                    people too.

                              SHINOBU

                    How did you meet?

                              KAZUO

                    I really don't like all of these

                    questions. I don't want to get

                    enthusiastic about it and then it

                    fall through.

                              SHINOBU

                    Playing it safe.

                              DAISUKE

                    I say, go for it. A relationship

                    will be good for you. You're thirty

                    years old, it's time to think about

                    settling down unless you want to be

                    a bachelor for your whole life.

                              KAZUO

                    I don't know. Sometimes I think it

          INT. HOTEL. NIGHT.

          Ninette and Yuuto are lying in their separate beds, facing

          away from each other. Both are awake but silent.

                              NINETTE

                    Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes.

          Ninette rolls over to face him.

                              NINETTE

                    What do you remember about your

                    past? I hope I'm not intruding too

                    much but I think that maybe by

                    reminding yourself what you

                    remember you might be able to

                    figure out the missing pieces.

          Yuuto rolls over on his back.

                              YUUTO

                    I remember a few memories of having

                    to take care of my mother. I ran

                    away from home when I was thirteen

                    and went to Nagano. I was taken in

                    by a group of kids that made their

                    living by robbing people. Their

                    leader was a old man who was a

                    World War II veteran. He had lost

                    everything and found comfort in

                    helping young boys and girls grow

                    up. Obviously he wasn't the best

                    influence; he taught us how to

                    steal and not get caught. He shared

                    stories of the war to us, told us

                    how he was one of the best soldiers

                    in the army. Now that I think about

                    it, Katashi reminds me of him.

                              NINETTE

                    Maybe he was the inspiration for

                    Katashi. If you looked up to him

                    like you did.

                              YUUTO

                    Maybe.

                              NINETTE

                    When did you leave the group?

                              YUUTO

                    Myself and a friend of mine from

                    the group went to Korea. We had

                    raised enough money to buy plane

                    tickets. We did our job that we

                    were trained to do but one day he

                    slipped. We ran through the streets

                    as fast as we could but he was shot

                    in the leg. He told me to go on and

                    leave him. I regret not going to

                    help him but I ran anyway. It was

                    the first time that I realized that

                    stealing could get me in trouble,

                    or worse, killed. I came back to

                    Japan and traveled everywhere. The

                    old stealing habits came back every

                    once in a while. I came back to

                    Tokyo about a year ago and got

                    caught for stealing something

                    extremely valuable. Old habits die

                    hard.

                              NINETTE

                    Why did they let you have the job?

                              YUUTO

                    Because of my specialty, reading

                    microexpressions. Knowing

                    psychology can surprisingly get you

                    far in law enforcement. I never

                    thought I would be in this

                    situation.

          There is some silence for a little while.

                              NINETTE

                    Can you tell me about your mother?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't know which one is the real

                    one.

                              NINETTE

                    What do you mean?

                              YUUTO

                    When I remember the memories I have

                    of her, I only see a mother who

                    used to drink and be hateful. When

                    I went to see her recently, she was

                    completely different. There was

                    sweetness in her eyes. She is

                    caring now. I don't know which of

                    those is the real one. It's like

                    seeing two different people. Until

                    the last meeting, I hadn't seen her

                    in fifteen years. I'm surprised she

                    remembered me. If she knew I ended

                    up like this, she would be

                    heartbroken.

                              NINETTE

                    Is she the reason you left home?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't know. It was Noboru's idea.

                              NINETTE

                    Noboru?

                              YUUTO

                    He told me to run away and not

                    thinking of the consequences, I

                    did.

          There is silence.

                              NINETTE

                    I was thinking that maybe if you

                    went to a psychologist, they might

                    be able to unlock more of your

                    memory that only your other alters

                    know. There's a treatment you can

                    go through that helps tie the

                    broken pieces back together. If you

                    want to remember everything, it

                    might help.

          Yuuto rolls over facing away from her.

                              YUUTO

                    It's still too much to take in.

          He closes his eyes to sleep. Ninette rolls over facing away,

          she is concerned. Yuuto looks over his shoulder at her.

                              YUUTO

                    Maybe we can go first thing

                    tomorrow.

                              NINETTE

                    It's not too much?

                              YUUTO

                    You're not the only one whose

                    curious. Maybe it's better to get

                    it over and done with.

          Ninette's concern turns to worry.

          INT. PSYCHOLOGIST'S OFFICE. MORNING.

          Ninette and Yuuto are sitting in the waiting room. Yuuto

          looks nervous. Ninette looks over to him and notice his

          hands are shaking. She holds his hand. He tenses up and

          pulls his hand away.

                              NINETTE

                    It's going to be alright.

          They hear the door open and they look over. NISHIMURA AINA

          walks over to them.

                              AINA

                    Are you Takanori-san?

          Yuuto looks away.

                              NINETTE

                    Yes, he is. He hasn't done this

                    before so he's very nervous.

                              AINA

                    I did receive the information from

                    your psychiatrist so I know you

                    pretty well, Takanori-san.

                              YUUTO

                    Please call me Yuuto.

                              AINA

                    Alright, Yuuto-san. Would you like

                    the lady to join you? If you don't

                    she can stay out here.

                              YUUTO

                    Please. I would like her to be in

                    there.

                              AINA

                    Alright, follow me.

          She walks back into the room, Yuuto and Ninette follow.

          There is a couch and a few chairs in this small room. There

          are side tables on each end of the couch. There are also a

          few bookshelves lining the far wall. Her desk is located

          near the door; its very neat and organized.

                              AINA

                    Please, sit.

          Aina sits on one of the chairs and grabs a clipboard from

          the side table. Yuuto and Ninette sit on the couch.

                              AINA

                    Alright, Yuuto-san. Your past

                    psychiatrist diagnosed you with

                    Dissociative Identity Disorder,

                    correct?

                              YUUTO

                    Um...yes.

                              AINA

                    How do you feel right now?

                              YUUTO

                    Nervous, maybe a little scared.

                              AINA

                    Why are you scared?

                              YUUTO

                    I think that I've gotten to a point

                    where I would like to know what

                    happened to me, why I'm like this.

                    But at the same time, there might

                    be something about me that I don't

                    want to find out.

                              AINA

                    I see. You have been taking

                    anti-anxiety medication, correct?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes, Escitalopram.

                              AINA

                    Has it been working for you?

                              YUUTO

                    Not really. It works sometimes but

                    there are times when another alter

                    will take over when the drug is

                    supposed to work and they take over

                    during the duration of the drug.

                              AINA

                    I see. You have three alters,

                    correct?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes.

                              AINA

                    Your psychiatrist has them written

                    down here. Have any others

                    developed?

                              YUUTO

                    No, though I'm seeing an unknown

                    alter.

                              AINA

                    An unknown alter?

                              YUUTO

                    I don't think it has taken over me

                    yet but I do sense it's there.

          Ninette looks at him and then looks away.

                              NINETTE

                         (to herself)

                    The lady in the blue dress.

                              YUUTO

                    What?

                              NINETTE

                    Noboru mentioned her and I think

                    Rei knows about it too.

                              AINA

                    What does this alter look like?

                              YUUTO

                    It's a black figure in a blue

                    dress. It doesn't have a face so I

                    cannot decipher male or female, but

                    it's probably female.

                              AINA

                    Do you see your other alters like

                    you see this one?

                              YUUTO

                    Not until recently.

                              AINA

                    Your condition is getting worse.

                    Your psychiatrist said you were

                    only hearing voices but if you are

                    starting to see them now, that is

                    not a good sign. Can you see any of

                    them now?

                              YUUTO

                    No, I haven't changed in two days

                    and I usually see them for a quick

                    second when they are about to take

                    over.

                              AINA

                    I see. Yuuto-san, if you are

                    seeking treatment, there are two

                    types of treatment we can use to

                    try and put your mind back

                    together. It will not be an easy

                    task so lots of treatment will be

                    needed. You can integrate which

                    will attempt to put all of your

                    personalities together into one. I

                    will let you know that this one

                    does not always work. There is also

                    information where the goal is to

                    have all of the personalities have

                    all of the memories so every

                    personality is on the same page and

                    there are no holes. The latter is

                    the most effective treatment and

                    will last longer than integration.

                    Which one would you like to do?

                              YUUTO

                    Information.

                    Are you familiar with hypnosis,

                    Yuuto-san?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes.

                              AINA

                    Now this isn't some circus hypnosis

                    where I tell you to be a chicken or

                    a monkey. I will be using it to

                    help you reach into your

                    unconscious so you can revisit some

                    of your repressed memories. This

                    might be very painful because these

                    might be memories that you

                    repressed for that exact reason;

                    they hurt you to remember. But, if

                    you know the initial trauma of your

                    childhood, you will know why you

                    are the way you are. Are you

                    alright with that?

                              YUUTO

                    Yes.

          Aina rises and notions to her chair.

                              AINA

                    Alright. (To Ninette) Come sit in

                    this chair, miss. Yuuto-san, lie

                    down, please.

          Ninette takes Aina's old seat and Yuuto lays down on his

          back. Aina pulls up an unoccupied chair to the couch and

          sits.

                              AINA

                    Do you have something with you that

                    holds some meaning to you?

          Yuuto sits up and pulls out the picture of his father from

          his jacket pocket and shows it to her. She takes the

          picture.

                              AINA

                    Who is he?

                              YUUTO

                    My father. I don't remember him but

                    for some reason I think I do.

                              AINA

                    I cannot guarantee that the memory

                    of your father will be the one we

                    find but If you keep coming to

                    these sessions, we might be able

                    to. Now lay back.

          Yuuto nods and lays back. Aina holds the picture up so he

          can see it. Ninette looks on. She seems worried.

                              AINA

                    What was your father's name?

                              YUUTO

                    Ichiro.

                              AINA

                    Alright, focus on Ichiro and relax.

                    Relax, you are safe here, you have

                    nothing to fear. The hurt is in the

                    past.

          Yuuto's eyes close and his breathing starts to steady.

                              AINA

                    Are you still with us, Yuuto.

                              YUUTO

                         (calmly)

                    Yes.

                              AINA

                    When was the last time you saw your

                    father, Ichiro?

                              YUUTO

                    I was three, so...twenty-five years

                    ago.

                              AINA

                    Where did you last see him?

                              YUUTO

                    My house, the house I grew up in.

                    It was dark and I was in the living

                    room.

                              AINA

                    What was your father doing?

                              YUUTO

                    He's not there yet. I haven't seen

                    him yet.

          Yuuto's head moves to the side as if he is looking for

          something but his eyes remain closed.

                              YUUTO

                    He's not... (becoming alert) Wait.

          FLASHBACK.

          It is a dark living room with a couch and some other

          furniture. There are some toys scattered on the floor but

          there are also empty beer cans scattered as well. The scene

          is shot in Yuuto's point of view.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    What's happening Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    He's here. He came in through the

                    front door.

          Ichiro quietly steps towards Yuuto.

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    He's coming closer to me.

          Ichiro starts to speak but its inaudible.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    What is he doing?

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    He's saying something to me.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    What is he saying?

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    He wants to take me away with him.

                    He's says everything is going to be

                    alright and I'll be safe soon.

          There is the sound of a door being kicked open. Ichiro turns

          around.

                              YUUTO(NOBORU)

                         (voice over, screaming)

                    She's here!

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    Yuuto, what is it?

                              NINETTE

                         (voice over)

                    He's not Yuuto, he's Noboru. He's

                    the only one that screams like

                    that.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    Noboru, what is happening?

                              YUUTO(NOBORU)

                         (voice over)

                    She's yelling, he's yelling,

                    painful screaming.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    Noboru, can you give me Yuuto back.

                    He needs to see this.

                              YUUTO(NOBORU)

                         (voice over)

                    Please, no!

          Ichiro and a woman in a blue dress are fighting. The woman's

          face is not shown.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    Yuuto!

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    I'm here.

                              AINA

                         (voice over)

                    What is going on?

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    They're fighting but I cannot see

                    her face. He throws her and breaks

                    the table.

          Ichiro throws the woman on the table and it breaks. The

          woman grabs the knife that was sitting on the table and

          jumps on Ichiro. She has it so Ichiro's head is right by

          Yuuto's feet. She straddles him and raises the knife with

          one hand above her head while the other holds his head down.

                              YUUTO

                         (voice over)

                    She's on top of him with a knife.

          The knife comes down stabbing Ichiro in the neck.

          INT/EXT. PSYCHOLOGIST'S OFFICE. MORNING.

          Yuuto jolts awake. He starts to breath heavily. Aina and

          Ninette are in shock. Ninette is in tears.

                              AINA

                    Yuuto-san, are you alright?

          Yuuto looks around and jumps off the couch out of the room.

          They both watch him leave. Aina rises and hands Ichiro's

          picture to Ninette.

                              AINA

                    He has a strong mind.

                              NINETTE

                    His father was murdered...in front

                    of him.

                              AINA

                    This is something I have never

                    experienced. Usually D.I.D patients

                    have experienced direct abuse. If

                    this memory was the trigger for his

                    disorder, this is something rare.

                    Do you know if he was ever abused?

                              NINETTE

                    I don't.

          Aina walks over to her desk, picks up a business card and

          hands it to Ninette.

                              AINA

                    If he wants to try again, please

                    tell him to come in. There aren't

                    many psychologists here that deal

                    with D.I.D patients. He needs help

                    and I can help him.

          Ninette takes the business card and nods.

          Ninette walks outside of the building and notices Yuuto

          sitting on a bench with his head down in his hands. She sits

          next to him. She holds the picture out to him.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm sure you don't want to lose

                    this.

          Yuuto looks up and his eyes are swollen. He takes the

          picture and looks at it.

                              YUUTO

                    He was trying to save me from

                    something. He wanted me to be safe

                    and he was killed for it.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm sorry I brought you here. I

                    shouldn't have.

                              YUUTO

                    No, I wanted to know what happened

                    too. It was my decision to come

                    here.

          Ninette goes to wipe his tears away but he jerks back. She

          pulls her hand away and hands him Aina's business card.

                              NINETTE

                    She wants you to have this so if

                    you want to find out more you can

                    call her.

          He takes the business card and stands up. Ninette stands up

          as well.

                              YUUTO

                    I should get you to Minoto so you

                    can finish this. Do you have what

                    you need?

          Ninette nods.

          EXT/INT. RECRUITMENT OFFICE. NOON.

          Ninette and Yuuto arrive at the center. They look at each

          other and Yuuto nods. Ninette takes a deep breath and walks

          through the front door.

                              YUUTO

                    She's inside you can come out now.

          Daisuke walks out from behind a bush, Ryoichi and Kazuo walk

          out of the side alley. They all meet up with Yuuto.

                              DAISUKE

                    Is she ready for this?

                              YUUTO

                    We'll see. I'll go in a minute to

                    follow her. I told her I'll let her

                    do it alone but I'm not going to

                    stand out here if she needs help.

                    I'll be right at the door to

                    Minoto's office. If you hear

                    gunshots, you take action.

                              DAISUKE

                    You got it.

          Yuuto walks in.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm pretty sure this entire plan is

                    batshit crazy. Am I wrong?

                              DAISUKE

                    It probably is but right now we

                    have no other choice. Even if

                    Minoto wanted to escape, she

                    couldn't because we know where all

                    the exits are.

                              KAZUO

                    I'll take the window from her

                    office. That's where the fire

                    escape is.

                              DAISUKE

                    Kawano and I will take care of the

                    front.

          Inside, Ninette has entered Shizuka's office. Shizuka is

          sitting behind her desk, calm and collected.

                              SHIZUKA

                    You want me to finish what I

                    started yesterday.

                              NINETTE

                    I want to know what Cosette's

                    purpose was.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Why do you think she had all of

                    that plastic surgery done to make

                    herself look just like you? Do you

                    think it was just a ploy to confuse

                    us? Hideaki knew that he had killed

                    Cosette. Cosette told us your plan

                    to switch places.

                              NINETTE

                    Then why did Hideaki take Cosette's

                    body from the hotel thinking it was

                    me. I was the one who told him he

                    had gotten what he came for.

                              SHIZUKA

                    You were the one fooled, princess.

                    Hideaki showed Cosette's body to

                    your father to make sure it wasn't

                    you. We knew how much Cosette

                    wanted your head, we thought that

                    you two might have switched so she

                    could make sure you were dead, but

                    like the faithful servant she was,

                    she stayed in her place. Besides,

                    we knew you would try to escape

                    Japan so we waited until Akachi

                    found out what plane you were

                    flying out on and took action. It

                    was sad to watch Cosette die, her

                    potential was not met.

                              NINETTE

                    What do you mean?

                              SHIZUKA

                    All of that plastic surgery was so

                    that she could take your place in

                    Monaco.

          Ninette's eyes widen and she clenches her fist.

                              NINETTE

                    What?

                              SHIZUKA

                    If the two of you had survived that

                    first night, she would have killed

                    your special bodyguards, given you

                    to Sakamoto-san, and gone back to

                    Monaco as you. Your father wouldn't

                    have been able to tell the

                    difference because he is a ignorant

                    man.

          Ninette pulls out her gun from her pocket and aims at

          Shizuka.

                              NINETTE

                    My father is not ignorant.

                              SHIZUKA

                    What type of man takes money from a

                    man who wants to marry his daughter

                    and then not go through with the

                    deal? Your father knew that he took

                    money from a wealthy son of a

                    yakuza clan yet he still took it.

                    Then, he blindly sent you here

                    knowing that we were going to hunt

                    you down. It sounds like your

                    father wants to get rid of you.

                              NINETTE

                    It's not true. My father loves me.

                              SHIZUKA

                    He kept this whole ordeal a secret

                    from you and sent you into danger.

                    Cosette told me everything about

                    your father, he does not want you

                    because you are not his legitimate

                    daughter.

          Ninette lowers her gun in shock.

                              SHIZUKA

                    You're confused now, aren't you?

                              NINETTE

                    How am I not his real daughter?

                              SHIZUKA

                    You are his daughter, but you are

                    not the queen's daughter.

                              NINETTE

                    My mother?

                              SHIZUKA

                    I am your real mother.

          Ninette drops her gun. She collapses on the ground.

                              SHIZUKA

                    Your father came to Japan

                    twenty-five years ago and had an

                    affair with me. I became pregnant

                    with you but because I could not

                    give you the life I desired for

                    you, I sent you to him. Shortly

                    after you were born, I joined the

                    Navy to create a better life for

                    myself. I fell in love with a man

                    there and left the past behind. But

                    when Seiichi, who I helped raise

                    for the past ten years, found you,

                    I wanted to be able to make it up

                    to you. You could have a good life

                    with Seiichi, he's a good man.

                    You're making this whole ordeal

                    harder than it should be.

                              NINETTE

                         (softly)

                    It's all lies.

          Ninette slowly takes off the silk sash around her waist.

                              NINETTE

                         (screams)

                    It's all lies!

          Ninette throws the sash around Shizuka's neck and tries to

          stangle her. Shizuka kicks Ninette off of her and Ninette

          crashes into the door.

          Outside the room, Yuuto hears the crash.

                              YUUTO

                    Ninette!

          Ninette recovers from the kick and locks the door.

                              YUUTO

                         (outside)

                    Ninette!

          Ninette goes into the stance for Pencek Silat and starts to

          attack Shizuka. Shizuka dodges all of her attacks. Shizuka

          back flips to get behind her desk. She pulls out a gun from

          one of the drawers. She starts to shoot at Ninette.

          Outside, Kazuo starts up the fire escape.

          In front of the building, Daisuke and the others hear the

          shots. There are several cop cars outside. Daisuke and

          Ryoichi run inside. Daisuke pulls out his badge and Ryoichi

          pulls out his gun.

                              DAISUKE

                    We are government agents! Where is

                    Minoto Shizuka?

                              RECEPTIONIST

                    Third floor, room 302.

                              RYOICHI

                    This building will be investigated

                    for yakuza activity. The police are

                    here to interrogate each and every

                    one of you. Don't move!

          The two run towards the staircase.

          Ninette kicks the gun out of Shizuka's hand and reaches for

          her knife. Before she pulls it out, Shizuka grabs Ninette's

          arm and throws her over her shoulder and onto her desk.

          Ninette turns over on the desk and kicks Shizuka in the

          chest. Ninette reaches for the gun but Shizuka pulls her

          back and throws her to the floor. Shizuka gets on top of

          Ninette and tries to strangle her. Ninette struggles but she

          pulls out her knife and cuts Shizuka's side. Shizuka falls

          over in pain. Ninette gets on top of her and raises the

          knife above her head.

          Yuuto breaks the lock on the door and opens it just in time

          to see Ninette stab Shizuka in the neck. Shizuka's blood

          splatters on Ninette. Shizuka starts to choke and cough

          blood. Ninette lets go of the knife and backs away from

          Shizuka's body. Shizuka slowly dies. Ninette looks down at

          her blood covered hands and starts to scream. Yuuto runs

          over to Ninette and holds her close. Her screams turn into

          tears. Daisuke and Ryoichi run up to the door and look in

          horrified. Kazuo reaches the window and enters in.

                              DAISUKE

                    We'll take care of this. Yuuto, get

                    her out of here. The van is right

                    outside.

          Yuuto picks her up and carries her out of the room.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NIGHT.

          Ninette, now cleaned up, is sleeping on her bed. Yuuto is

          sitting next to her. He reaches out to touch her face when

          Shinobu enters. He has some papers in his hands. Yuuto looks

          towards him.

                              YUUTO

                    What did you find?

                              SHINOBU

                    She was telling the truth. Kojima

                    Shizuka was Ninette's mother.

                              YUUTO

                    She murdered her own mother.

                              SHINOBU

                    If you had learned all that she had

                    in the past couple of days,

                    wouldn't you? Her mother abandoned

                    her and then was in a ploy to have

                    her marry the son of the yakuza. It

                    would be hard to forgive someone

                    for that.

                              YUUTO

                    She mourned her mother's death. She

                    regrets doing it.

                              SHINOBU

                    We would have had to kill her

                    anyway.

                              YUUTO

                    You didn't kill Akachi. We could

                    have arrested her like we did him.

                              SHINOBU

                    It would have been life in prison,

                    it wouldn't have mattered. Either

                    way, we were sending her to die.

          Yuuto looks down at Ninette.

                              YUUTO

                    She's just as messed up as I am.

                              SHINOBU

                    I wouldn't go that far.

                              YUUTO

                    She's been lied to all her life. So

                    have I. I never knew who my father

                    was, my mother never told me, and

                    he was killed right in front of me.

                    She told me he never cared about me

                    when he was trying to save me from

                    something. Our whole lives we've

                    been lied to. We're more alike than

                    I thought.

                              SHINOBU

                    Yuuto, please do not let your

                    personal feelings change anything.

                    We were hired to protect her and

                    get her back to Monaco. We all know

                    you have grown attached to her, but

                    I want you to stop while you're

                    ahead. If it grows more, it will be

                    harder to let go.

                              YUUTO

                    I know that.

          Shinobu turns to leave but turns back.

                              SHINOBU

                    Ishikawa said that he wasn't going

                    to be here tonight so if either you

                    or Ninette need anything, you can

                    call Daisuke or myself.

          Yuuto nods and Shinobu leaves. Yuuto looks back onto Ninette

          and strokes her cheek.

                              YUUTO

                    I can touch you but I won't let you

                    touch me. I wish I knew why that

                    was.

          He jerks his hand back. He remembers the scene of the woman

          killing his father and the scene of Ninette killing Shizuka.

          He realizes the similarities and backs away from Ninette.

                              YUUTO

                    Why does it have to be that?

          He looks over his shoulder and sees the black figure in the

          blue dress. He faints.
