Operation: Monte Carlo Ep. 7 Little Shadow

One of Daisuke's old missions have been reopened that involve a thieving serial killer. Also, he relationship with Kazuo's sister is jeopardized by different factors. How will everything be resolved?

          EXT. BRIDGE. NIGHT.

          Daisuke is kneeling on one knee holding up an open ring box

          to Kiyomi.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ishikawa Kiyomi, will you marry me?

          Kiyomi leans down and kisses him.

                              KIYOMI

                    Of course I'll marry you.

          Her and Daisuke embrace.

          INT. MUSEUM. NIGHT/MORNING.

          A security guard is patrolling the dark museum. His

          flashlight shines down the hallway. As he's walking, he

          spots a figure running down the hall ahead of him. He starts

          to run after the figure.

                              GUARD

                    Hey! What are doing here? It's past

                    closing hours!

          He gets to the T section at the end and looks around. The

          figure is nowhere to be seen. He walks down the hall from

          which the figure came out of and spots an artifact missing

          from the case. He walks over to it to examine it. The

          descriptive tile reads 'The Sword of Prince Shotoku.' The

          figure from before walks up behind the guard and injects his

          neck with a needle. The guard is paralyzed as he falls to

          the ground. The figure pulls out a switchblade knife and

          kneels down to the guard.

          In the morning, Daisuke and Shinobu are examining the body

          of the guard. Shinobu has a leather bag beside him full of

          small medical instruments. Daisuke is taking pictures of the

          crime scene.

                              SHINOBU

                    He's been dead for several hours.

                    It looks like he was injected with

                    something through the neck. It

                    either caused unconsciousness or

                    paralysis.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why does this scene seem vaguely

                    familiar?

          Daisuke looks at the empty artifact case and reads the

          descriptive tile. His eyes widen.

                              DAISUKE

                    I've seen this before. Shinobu, we

                    need to examine his body for any

                    cuts.

                              SHINOBU

                    Uh?

                              DAISUKE

                    Remember my first mission as Head?

                    We were tracking a thief that stole

                    historical artifacts from museums

                    and always killed the night guard

                    to leave a message for the police.

                              SHINOBU

                    The Weapon Snatcher? But he killed

                    himself, we labeled it unsolved

                    because we never found the

                    artifacts.

                              DAISUKE

                    He always leaves a symbol on the

                    chest of his victims as some sort

                    of ritual.

                              SHINOBU

                    I already said that he killed

                    himself.

                              DAISUKE

                    Check his chest.

          Shinobu pulls out a pair of scissors from his bag. He cuts

          open the night guard's shirt to reveal a pentagram cut into

          the man's torso. Daisuke takes a picture of the cut.

                              DAISUKE

                    He's still alive.

          INT. DIH. MORNING.

          Kenta is sitting behind his desk sliding through pictures on

          a tablet. All of the pictures are of the pentagram cuts in

          different men's chests. Daisuke is sitting across from him.

                              KENTA

                    Do you really think that he's still

                    alive?

                              DAISUKE

                    I'm not sure. Ogawa pointed out

                    that it could be a copycat but

                    usually when we look at those types

                    of cases, there is something

                    different from the original. Ogawa

                    is waiting for toxicology to finish

                    their report to see if the toxin

                    that was used in the original is

                    the same. Everything else is

                    exactly the same, we haven't found

                    an inconsistency.

                              KENTA

                    So he's back after all this time.

                    Well, we'll just have to reopen the

                    case. I will call together the

                    members that helped with that case

                    and...

                              DAISUKE

                    Watanabe-san, may I request that

                    the members of the Monte Carlo

                    operation to help with the case?

                              KENTA

                    Why? We already have a team that

                    know the details of the case.

                              DAISUKE

                    I trust these men. Ogawa also

                    thinks it is a good idea for them

                    to help. Without more information

                    on Sakamoto Seiichi, we have no

                    where else to go on the operation.

                    The princess is safe for now and

                    will not be in any danger if one of

                    us takes care of her at a time.

          Kenta stands and looks out of the window. He is silent for a

          moment. He turns back around and closes the folder with the

          pictures. He hands it to Daisuke.

                              KENTA

                    Solve this case, Uchida. I'm

                    counting on you.

          Daisuke bows and exits the room.

          INT. KAZUO'S HOUSE. NOON.

          The men are gathered in the study. Shinobu and Daisuke are

          standing in front of a board that is posted with pictures

          from the crime scene. Yuuto, Ryoichi, and Kazuo are in front

          of them sitting.

                              RYOICHI

                    Weapon Snatcher?

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes. About a year ago, museums were

                    being broken into and ancient

                    weapons were stolen from their

                    cases. How they were taken out is

                    still a mystery. We have had the

                    museum staff examine the cases and

                    none of them are defective or

                    tampered with. All the weapons that

                    have been stolen are ancient

                    weapons that belonged to famous

                    historical figures. The one that

                    was stolen last night belonged to

                    Prince Shotoku.

                              SHINOBU

                    There is also the case with the

                    night guard. At all of these

                    museums, there is only one night

                    guard on duty. The thief injects

                    the night guard with a lethal dose

                    of batrachotoxin which affects the

                    nervous system and causes complete

                    paralysis and slow death. The type

                    we found is a synthetic version of

                    the toxin. Also, the night guards

                    all have a pentagram cut into their

                    chest. In modern days, the

                    pentagram symbolizes the elements

                    of nature and is mostly associated

                    with witchcraft. 

                              YUUTO

                    So we're also dealing with serial

                    killer.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes. A total of twelve weapons have

                    been stolen and a total of twelve

                    guards have been murdered. We

                    thought he killed himself because

                    we found our main suspect hung in a

                    factory. Without the knowledge of

                    where the weapons were located, the

                    case could not be solved. 

                              KAZUO

                    If he killed himself, wouldn't this

                    new incident be a copycat?

                              SHINOBU

                    That is what we thought but since

                    none of the details were released

                    to the public and every detail of

                    this incident is the same as the

                    other eleven, there is a two

                    percent possibility that this is a

                    copycat.

                              KAZUO

                    So you never did find the real

                    culprit.

                              DAISUKE

                    No, that is why Watanabe has

                    reopened the case and I have

                    requested that we are the ones to

                    look into it.

                              YUUTO

                    We can narrow down our search by

                    thinking of who has access to the

                    neurotoxin. Since it is synthetic,

                    it must have been created in a

                    laboratory.

                              SHINOBU

                    Correct, but we have searched

                    through the records of all the

                    science labs in Japan and none of

                    them have access or create this

                    toxin. We have also checked customs

                    at most of the airports and there

                    hasn't been any record of it coming

                    into Japan, unless they smuggled it

                    in.

                              KAZUO

                    This guy is going to be difficult

                    to find.

                              SHINOBU

                    We have informed all of the museums

                    to have multiple night guards on

                    duty and to not have them travel

                    alone. Hopefully if they abide by

                    our request, we might catch him

                    next week if he continues his

                    weekly pattern.

          Ninette walks into the room and spots everyone. She sees the

          pictures on the board.

                              NINETTE

                    What is this?

                              DAISUKE

                    By the way, someone will have to

                    watch after Ninette.

                              SHINOBU

                    She will be safe at my lab. I can

                    look after her there.

                              NINETTE

                    I don't need to be looked after.

                              SHINOBU

                    It would be nice to have someone

                    there to help.

                              NINETTE

                    Fine.

                              DAISUKE

                    Alright, that works for me. Yuuto

                    and Ishikawa will be paired for

                    this mission and I will pair up

                    with Kawano. Shinobu and Ninette,

                    you may leave. Call us when you

                    find anything new.

                              SHINOBU

                    Alright.

          Shinobu and Ninette exit through the hallway. Kiyomi passes

          them and enters.

                              KIYOMI

                    Hello everyone.

                              DAISUKE

                    Kiyomi, what are you doing here?

                              KIYOMI

                    It has come to my attention by

                    Watanabe-san that the weapon

                    snatcher case has been reopened.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, but...

                              KIYOMI

                    As you very well know, I was in the

                    original group and I want to be a

                    part of it again.

          Kazuo notices the ring on Kiyomi's hand.

                              DAISUKE

                    But Kiyomi...

          Kazuo walks over and grabs Kiyomi's left arm and holds it

          up.

                              KAZUO

                    What is this?

          Kiyomi pulls her arm away from him.

                              KIYOMI

                    None of your business.

                              KAZUO

                    It is my business, you're my

                    sister.

                              RYOICHI

                    Ishikawa, you never told us you had

                    a sister.

                              KAZUO

                    It wasn't important.

                              KIYOMI

                    Not important?

                              KAZUO

                    I didn't mean it like that. Now

                    tell me, what is the ring for?

          Kiyomi crosses her arms trying to hide the ring.

                              DAISUKE

                    I proposed to her last night.

                              KIYOMI

                    Daisuke, you said we weren't going

                    to tell him.

                              DAISUKE

                    He might as well know. He's already

                    found out.

                              KAZUO

                    You proposed to my sister?

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, I did, because she means the

                    world to me and after two years, I

                    felt like it was time.

                              KAZUO

                    How dare you!

          Kazuo punches Daisuke, knocking him to the ground. Kazuo

          jumps on him and continues to punch him.

                              KIYOMI

                    Kazuo, stop it!

          Yuuto and Ryoichi pull Kazuo off of Daisuke. Kiyomi runs to

          Daisuke's side and helps him up. Kazuo pulls out of Yuuto

          and Ryoichi's grip. Kiyomi walks over to him and punches him

          to the ground.

                              KIYOMI

                         (frustrated)

                    How dare you do that to him! After

                    everything that you have been

                    through, why are you still so cold

                    hearted?! I thought you had changed

                    after your mother's killer was dead

                    and you found someone to love who

                    loves you back, but I was wrong.

                    You're still a stone cold b*****d!

          Kiyomi leaves the room, Daisuke follows her. Ryoichi looks

          down at Kazuo before walking out. Yuuto holds out his hand

          to help Kazuo up but Kazuo pushes it away.

                              KAZUO

                    I don't need your help.

          Yuuto becomes frustrated and begins to walk out. He turns

          again to Kazuo.

                              YUUTO

                    You should learn to trust us

                    instead of pushing us away.

                              KAZUO

                    You're one to talk!

          Yuuto walks out.

          EXT. MUSEUM. MID-AFTERNOON.

          Kiyomi and Daisuke are sitting outside on the stairs.

          Daisuke is holding an ice pack up to his face. Kiyomi is

          pacing in front of him.

                              KIYOMI

                    I cannot believe that Kazuo is

                    still acting like an a*s about

                    this. It is my life to live, not

                    his. I can make my own decisions.

                              DAISUKE

                    He's concerned about you.

                              KIYOMI

                    I don't know why. I can do fine on

                    my own, and I made a good decision

                    when I said yes to you.

                              DAISUKE

                    I can't argue that you can do fine

                    on your own but you have to know

                    his side.

                              KIYOMI

                    No I don't. He needs to learn to

                    keep his nose out of my life.

          Ryoichi exits the museum and walks down the stairs to them.

                              RYOICHI

                    They have six people doing night

                    duty from now on.

                              DAISUKE

                    Good. Hopefully, there won't be any

                    problems.

                              KIYOMI

                    There is a way to know what museum

                    he is going to hit next.

                              DAISUKE

                    How?

                              KIYOMI

                    This was the first museum he hit

                    when this happened the first time.

                    If he keeps the same pattern as

                    before he will hit the Edo Tokyo

                    Museum next.

                              DAISUKE

                    We don't know if this is going to

                    be a weekly thing or not. What if

                    he attacks tonight?

                              KIYOMI

                    I would like to work on it. I will

                    go to the museum for the nights

                    until he attacks.

                              DAISUKE

                    Then I will assign Yuuto and your

                    brother to assist you.

          Kiyomi walks up to Daisuke.

                              KIYOMI

                    What the hell did you just say?

                    You're going to send me an unstable

                    nutcase and my jackass brother? You

                    have got to be joking.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yuuto is a good agent and I know

                    you are not on good terms with your

                    brother but you need to straighten

                    things out with him. He's your

                    brother. The last thing you want to

                    do is lose him. He's a good man.

                              RYOICHI

                    He's right. You can trust both of

                    them.

          Kiyomi looks away from them.

                              DAISUKE

                    Please Kiyomi.

                              KIYOMI

                    Fine, but only because you asked.

                              DAISUKE

                    Thank you, Kiyomi.

          INT. SHINOBU'S LAB. MID-AFTERNOON.

          Ninette is sitting in a chair looking unenthusiastic. She is

          in a lab coat. Shinobu is working on the main computer

          looking through some of the old case photos.

                              NINETTE

                    Do you want me to do anything?

                              SHINOBU

                    At the moment, no.

          Ninette stands and walks over to him.

                              NINETTE

                    I need to do something.

                              SHINOBU

                    Are you hungry?

                              NINETTE

                    Actually yes.

          Shinobu pulls out some money from his pocket and hands it to

          her.

                              SHINOBU

                    On the tenth floor, there is a

                    cafe. I would like beef ramen and I

                    don't care what you get. I also

                    want a coffee. I need caffeine.

          Ninette looks at the money and looks back at him. She walks

          towards the door and leaves. Shinobu compares one of the old

          photos and the new picture of the carved pentagrams. He

          realizes something and picks up his phone and dials.

                              SHINOBU

                    Daisuke, you need to get to my lab

                    now. I found something.

          About an hour later, Daisuke and Ryoichi are now in the lab.

          Ninette is in her seat eating. Shinobu and the others are at

          the computer.

                              SHINOBU

                    I looked closely at the pictures

                    from the last case and the one from

                    the murder last night and I found

                    something interesting. The

                    pentagrams are different.

                              DAISUKE

                    How? I cannot tell.

                              SHINOBU

                    Its the weapon that was used. Its

                    completely different.

                              DAISUKE

                    Okay...?

                              SHINOBU

                    I examined the body after looking

                    at these pictures and the cuts were

                    made by different knives. The

                    previous eleven were made by the

                    same knife, the knife we have in

                    our possession when we caught who

                    we thought was the weapon snatcher.

                    The knife that was used on the

                    night guard this time was some type

                    of serrated knife. The knife we

                    have is a straight edge. The cuts

                    on the old bodies are clean cut.

                    The one from last night is jagged.

                              DAISUKE

                    Are you saying that it could be a

                    copycat?

                              SHINOBU

                    It's our first inconsistency. It's

                    quite possible.

                              RYOICHI

                    What if he just decided to use a

                    different knife?

                              SHINOBU

                    When it comes to serial killers,

                    most of them kill in a ritualistic

                    manner. They do everything

                    perfectly using the same materials.

                    Why would he change his ritual?

                              RYOICHI

                    So we are dealing with a copycat.

                              SHINOBU

                    There's a higher probability of

                    that then the real weapon snatcher.

                              DAISUKE

                    This copycat must have been an

                    apprentice or something. Kiyomi

                    thinks that he is going to the Edo

                    Tokyo Museum since it was the next

                    target on the list of the original.

                              SHINOBU

                    If he does everything just like the

                    original, she is correct.

                              DAISUKE

                    I'll call her and tell her the new

                    information. Her, Ishikawa and

                    Yuuto are going to be at the museum

                    tonight, just in case he decides to

                    do this every night.

                              SHINOBU

                    That is a good idea.

          Daisuke exits the room as he dials his phone.

                              RYOICHI

                    I'm going to go back to Ishikawa's

                    to check on Ken'ichi and Yumiko.

                              SHINOBU

                    Alright.

          Ryoichi leaves to room. Ninette rises and walks over to the

          Shinobu.

                              NINETTE

                    Shinobu?

                              SHINOBU

                    Yes?

                              NINETTE

                    Do you know why Yuuto is ignoring

                    me?

                              SHINOBU

                    Not really. I can tell he's more

                    uncomfortable when you're around.

                              NINETTE

                    I probably shouldn't have taken him

                    to that psychologist.

                              SHINOBU

                    Maybe your right, but maybe knowing

                    his past might be good for him. I

                    know we said that we were going to

                    leave it alone and we should, but

                    he doesn't remember half of his

                    past. Your past explains your

                    present but if you don't have that

                    past, it's hard to change for the

                    future.

          Ninette sits and is silent.

          INT. EDO TOKYO MUSEUM. MIDNIGHT.

          In the security room, Kiyomi and Yuuto are watching the

          security cameras. Kiyomi is dressed in more comfortable

          clothes than what we have seen before. A few of the monitors

          show the night guards walking along the halls. Yuuto looks

          over to her.

                              YUUTO

                    Congratulations, by the way.

                              KIYOMI

                    What?

                              YUUTO

                    Because of the situation before, I

                    was not able to congratulate you

                    and Daisuke on your engagement.

                              KIYOMI

                    Oh, thank you. It's nice to know

                    someone approves of it.

                              YUUTO

                    Is there a reason your brother is

                    not approving it?

          Kiyomi walks away from him. She turns slowly back to face

          him.

                              KIYOMI

                    I was married once. I was young and

                    stupid and thought I had found a

                    wonderful guy. We got married and

                    it seemed like everything was fine.

          She turns and pulls up her shirt halfway and shows Yuuto the

          scars from cuts and cigarette burns. Yuuto covers his mouth,

          disgusted. Kiyomi pulls down her shirt and turns back to

          him.

                              KIYOMI

                    He seemed like a nice guy but he

                    wasn't. It took me awhile to

                    realize that. When I finally

                    realized it and he attacked me, I

                    fought back. I don't know if my

                    brother told you but he learned his

                    aikido skills from me. If done the

                    right way, some of those techniques

                    can be lethal. I broke his neck,

                    killing him. I was so tired of

                    everything he had done to me.

                    That's when I became the woman I am

                    today. I'm more independent than

                    before. I think Kazuo is afraid

                    that Daisuke is putting on the same

                    facade that my ex-husband did but I

                    know better now. I know better than

                    to think that he is trying to

                    deceive me.

          Yuuto is silent.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm glad you know what made you who

                    you are today.

          Kiyomi's stern face changes to sadness.

                              KIYOMI

                    Daisuke told me what you had. I

                    made the mistake earlier of calling

                    you an unstable nutcase. I'm sorry

                    for that.

                              YUUTO

                    That's not the worst name I have

                    been called. I would rather be

                    called an unstable nutcase than a

                    psychopath.

          The alarm goes off. The two of them rush to the monitors.

          Kiyomi points at one.

                              KIYOMI

                    There, let's go.

          The two of them rush out of the room.

          On the fourth floor, Kazuo is running after a black figure.

          The figure turns the corner and when Kazuo reaches the

          corner, he is not there. Kazuo pulls out his guns and slowly

          walks ahead. He pulls out his flashlight and shines it ahead

          and spots two dead night guards.

                              KAZUO

                    My god.

                              KIYOMI

                    Kazuo!

          He turns around to see Yuuto and Kiyomi running towards him.

                              KAZUO

                    God, don't scare me like that.

          The figure falls from the ceiling behind Kiyomi and injects

          a needle into her neck.

                              KAZUO

                    Kiyomi!

          Kiyomi grabs the man's arm and pulls him over her head,

          causing him to fall on the ground. Kiyomi falls to the

          ground. The man gets up and starts to run in Yuuto's

          direction. Yuuto grabs the man's arm and pulls the face mask

          off to reveal OJIMA YAMATO. Yuuto has a flashback of him and

          Yamato running away from the police in Korea and leaving

          Yamato behind. Yuuto comes back to reality.

                              YUUTO

                    Yamato?

                              YAMATO

                    Yuuto?

          Yamato looks over to see Kazuo running towards him. He pulls

          out of Yuuto's grip and runs off. Kazuo chases after him.

          INT. HOSPITAL. EARLY MORNING.

          Daisuke runs into the hospital room. He sees Kazuo and Yuuto

          standing in front of the hospital bed that Kiyomi is lying

          on. She is unconscious with an oxygen mask on. Daisuke runs

          between Kazuo and Yuuto to get to the bed.

                              DAISUKE

                    Kiyomi!

          He holds her hand. He turns to Kazuo.

                              DAISUKE

                    What happened to her?

                              KAZUO

                    She was injected with the

                    neurotoxin by the weapon snatcher.

                    He got away before I could get a

                    hand on him. They have tried to

                    reverse the effects of the

                    neurotoxin with some success.

                              DAISUKE

                    Did we find out who it is?

                              KAZUO

                    Yuuto knows.

          Yuuto looks away.

                              DAISUKE

                    Is this true, Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                    His name is Ojima Yamato. I grew up

                    with him in Nagano. I thought he

                    was dead. I saw him in Korea being

                    shot down by the police. I didn't

                    know he was alive.

          Kenta and two government agents walk in.

                              KENTA

                    We cannot trust that.

                              DAISUKE

                    Watanabe-san?

                              KENTA

                    Takanori Yuuto, we will need you to

                    come with us. We cannot have you

                    running about until this man is

                    caught.

                              YUUTO

                    I have nothing to do with him!

                              KENTA

                         (to agents)

                    Cuff him.

          One of the agents walks over to him and starts to cuff him.

                              YUUTO

                    I told you I have nothing to do

                    with him.

                              DAISUKE

                    Watanabe-san, please.

                              KENTA

                    We will keep him until this is

                    settled.

          The two officials try to take Yuuto out of the room but he

          turns to Kazuo.

                              YUUTO

                    I had nothing to do with him! You

                    had no right to tell them anything!

          Yuuto collapses, bringing the agents down. Yuuto stands, his

          eyes filled with anger and runs towards Kazuo screaming. He

          seems very primitive. Kenta and the agents grab him and pull

          him down to the ground. A nurse runs in and is shocked.

                              KAZUO

                    Get a tranquilizer.

          The nurse runs back out. Kazuo grabs Yuuto's face, stopping

          him from screaming but he is breathing heavily. The nurse

          runs back in and hands Kazuo the tranquilizer needle.

                              KAZUO

                    Your friend hurt my sister. I don't

                    care if you're associated with him

                    or not, I can't trust you.

          Kazuo sticks the needle in Yuuto's shoulder and watches him

          as he becomes unconscious. He lets go of Yuuto and stands.

          Kenta and the agents carry Yuuto out of the room, the nurse

          follows. Daisuke looks at Kazuo in disbelief.

                              DAISUKE

                    Do you realize you just turned in

                    the one person that could help us

                    find the weapon snatcher?

                              KAZUO

                    We are not safe if he is helping

                    him.

                              DAISUKE

                    If he was, we would be dead

                    already! He trusts us, Ishikawa! I

                    know you love your sister but it's

                    not Yuuto's fault!

                              KAZUO

                    It doesn't matter! His emotions

                    would get in the way of this

                    mission and you know how he is when

                    he is emotional!

                              DAISUKE

                    He's learned to control it!

                              KAZUO

                    Bullshit! Were you not here just

                    now? He tried to attack me. Whoever

                    this new alter is is slowly coming

                    out and its dangerous. Its better

                    if he is locked away. You cannot

                    argue that.

                              DAISUKE

                    I am going to argue with it because

                    I am his friend, a concept that you

                    need to figure out.

          The nurse walks back in.

                              NURSE

                    Is everything alright in here?

                              KAZUO

                    Yes.

                              DAISUKE

                    No, please escort him out.

                              KAZUO

                    What?

                              DAISUKE

                    I don't want you here and I'm going

                    to stay here with my fiance.

                              KAZUO

                    She's my sister.

                              DAISUKE

                    I don't give a s**t anymore! You

                    may think you know what your sister

                    wants, but you don't. Get out.

          Kazuo angrily walks out of the room. Daisuke sits next to

          Kiyomi and holds her hand.

          INT. DIH. NOON.

          In Shinobu's lab, Ninette brings in a tray of food and

          drinks for her and Shinobu and lays it down on his desk.

          Shinobu is sleeping on a futon. Ninette kneels down and

          shakes him.

                              NINETTE

                    Hey, Shinobu, I brought you lunch.

          Shinobu wakes up and rubs his eyes.

                              SHINOBU

                    Thanks.

          Ninette walks back over to the desk and takes her food.

                              NINETTE

                    How late did you stay up last

                    night?

                              SHINOBU

                    I went to sleep around three.

                              NINETTE

                    Doing what?

                              SHINOBU

                    I had to re-look at all of the

                    pictures Daisuke took of the crime

                    scene two nights ago. I was trying

                    to look for more inconsistencies.

                              NINETTE

                    Any luck?

                              SHINOBU

                    No. He's a good copycat.

          Kenta quickly walks into the room.

                              SHINOBU

                    Watanabe-san, good morning.

                              KENTA

                    We have a problem. Both of you

                    follow me.

          In an interrogation room, Yuuto is sitting there with tears

          in his eyes. He is cuffed to the chair. Kenta opens the door

          and lets Shinobu and Ninette in. Ninette sees Yuuto and runs

          to him.

                              NINETTE

                    Yuuto!

                              YUUTO(REI)

                    Stay away from me!

                              NINETTE

                    Rei?

                              YUUTO(REI)

                    You murderer! How dare you unlock

                    his memory, you murderer!

                              NINETTE

                    Rei, please stop it.

                              KENTA

                    Why is she calling him Rei?

                              YUUTO(REI)

                    Leave me alone!

          Ninette slaps Yuuto across the face.

                              NINETTE

                    You listen to me, Rei. You need to

                    calm down and bring Yuuto back. I

                    don't want the excuse that he is

                    sleeping, I don't want the excuse

                    that he doesn't want to see me even

                    though he doesn't. This is not a

                    good time for you to be here.

                              YUUTO(REI)

                    I hate you!

          Ninette raises and walks out of the room. Yuuto's head falls

          and then he comes back. He looks up to see Kenta and

          Shinobu.

                              YUUTO

                    Ogawa, I have nothing to do with

                    the weapon snatcher, I swear!

          Kenta closes the door.

                              SHINOBU

                    Watanabe-san, what is going on?

                              YUUTO

                    I know who the copycat is. I grew

                    up with him but that doesn't mean

                    I'm helping him!

                              SHINOBU

                    Watanabe-san, please let him go, I

                    know he's telling the truth.

                              KENTA

                    Why didn't you or any of the other

                    members mention that he has

                    Dissociative Identity Disorder?

                    That is something we should know to

                    keep you and the others safe.

                              SHINOBU

                    We did not want to cause any

                    commotion. He has proven himself to

                    us that he can be stable.

                              KENTA

                    I don't care how stable you think

                    he is. I just saw him not too long

                    ago trying to attack Ishikawa in a

                    primitive manner.

                              YUUTO

                    It wasn't me, I swear it! Please,

                    understand that I didn't do it on

                    my own free will.

                              SHINOBU

                    Please don't pull him out of this

                    mission, we need him! Please do not

                    hurt him!

                              KENTA

                    I don't want to hear this anymore!

                    That is my decision to pull him out

                    or not. Right now, I am considering

                    getting a new team all together for

                    both missions. All of you are

                    unstable in your personal lives to

                    carry on anymore.

                              SHINOBU

                    Watanabe-san, don't do this!

                              KENTA

                    Tell Uchida that if the weapon

                    snatcher case is not solved by the

                    end of tomorrow, you are all fired

                    and he will be thrown into a mental

                    institution. Fix everything or its

                    over for all of you.

          Kenta walks out of the room. Shinobu looks at Yuuto for a

          minute.

                              YUUTO

                    I'm sorry, this is all my fault.

                              SHINOBU

                    Don't think that. We will figure

                    something out. Please tell me

                    everything you know about your

                    friend and we will try to find him

                    and finish this.

                              YUUTO

                    If he took anything from the man

                    that taught us our trade, he would

                    hide his possessions in the most

                    likely place. Most people would

                    look for the least common place but

                    not the most. Knowing Yamato, he

                    and another colleague of his loved

                    weapons and would hide the weapons

                    he stole under the floorboards of

                    the house we lived in as children.

                    By ritual, that is what we did. So

                    wherever he lives now, there has to

                    be a floorboard that is loose for

                    that reason.

                              SHINOBU

                    That seems pretty stupid.

                              YUUTO

                    Believe me, the police don't think

                    of these things easily.

                              SHINOBU

                    Do you know where he might live?

                              YUUTO

                    Like I said, I didn't even know he

                    survived. The last time I saw him

                    was in Korea being gunned down. I

                    left him there.

                              SHINOBU

                    How long ago was that?

                              YUUTO

                    About seven years ago.

                              SHINOBU

                    That would be long enough to serve

                    in prison. What is his name?

                              YUUTO

                    Ujima Yamato.

                              SHINOBU

                    I will run and check on him in our

                    database. We might be able to find

                    something that could help us. I

                    will have Daisuke, Ishikawa, and

                    Ryoichi to patrol the next museum.

                    I will make sure nothing horrible

                    happens to any of us. I'll keep you

                    out of an institution, I promise.

          Yuuto nods. Shinobu pulls a pin out of his pocket and picks

          Yuuto's cuffs off.

                              SHINOBU

                    Please don't cause any trouble.

          Shinobu walks out of the room. Yuuto looks around. He pulls

          his feet up on the chair and buries his face in his knees

          and weeps.

          INT. TOKYO NATIONAL MUSEUM. MIDNIGHT.

          Daisuke and Ryoichi are walking through the dark halls with

          flashlights.

                              DAISUKE

                    I'm hating everything that is

                    happening the way it is. It seems

                    like the team is falling apart and

                    our secrets are being revealed. If

                    I didn't know any better, I would

                    think we were in a soap opera.

                              RYOICHI

                    I would hate to see Yuuto be thrown

                    in an institution. I'm sure

                    everyone would.

                              DAISUKE

                    Except for Ishikawa. I really don't

                    know what is wrong with him. He

                    seemed different when he came back

                    but nothing has changed.

                              RYOICHI

                    Give him time.

                              DAISUKE

                    We've been doing this mission for

                    just over a month now, he's had

                    enough time.

          They hear running ahead of them.

                              DAISUKE

                    Did you hear what I heard?

                              RYOICHI

                    Yeah. Let's go.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ishikawa told us to watch our

                    backs.

          Daisuke and Ryoichi pull out their guns and continue to

          walk. They reach the end of the hall and look down both

          hallways.

                              RYOICHI

                    Daisuke, this way.

          Ryoichi and Daisuke walk down the left hall.

                              DAISUKE

                    Look up at the ceiling too.

          Ryoichi shines the light on the ceiling. Ryoichi turns and

          Yamato sneaks up behind him aiming the needle for Ryoichi's

          neck.

                              DAISUKE

                    Ryoichi!

          A gun shot is heard and Yamato grabs his left knee,

          screaming in pain. Yamato drops the syringe and falls to the

          ground. Kazuo walks out of the shadows holding the fired

          gun. He kicks Yamato over and points the gun at his head.

          Daisuke grabs Kazuo's hand.

                              KAZUO

                    What are you doing?

                              DAISUKE

                    We need him.

          Kazuo pulls out of his grip and walks away. Daisuke pulls

          out his handcuffs and cuffs Yamato.

          INT. DIH. EARLY MORNING.

          In the interrogation room, Yuuto is sleeping in the corner

          of the room and is suddenly woken by the door opening. Two

          agents throw Yamato into the room.

                              YAMATO

                    Can't I get medical help, you

                    b******s?!

                              YUUTO

                    Yamato?

          Yamato looks over at him.

                              YAMATO

                    So it really was you.

                              YUUTO

                    I thought you were dead.

                              YAMATO

                    I thought you were too.

          On the other side of the one-way mirror, Kenta and Daisuke

          are watching Yamato and Yuuto.

                              KENTA

                    Are you sure we can get any

                    information out of him?

                              DAISUKE

                    If they are friends like Yuuto

                    claims then he won't have a problem

                    revealing some things to him. And

                    if Yuuto turns into Katashi, he can

                    be really persuasive.

                              KENTA

                    Katashi?

                              DAISUKE

                    His military personality.

                              KENTA

                    Why do you trust this man?

                              DAISUKE

                    Because all of us have grown to

                    know what he is really like. He is

                    very dedicated to his work. Yes, he

                    is unstable at times but he tries

                    his best like we all do to fulfill

                    our mission. I don't want to see

                    him treated like he's a criminal.

                              KENTA

                    He is a criminal. Have you

                    forgotten that is a convicted

                    thief? His expertise is the only

                    reason he's with all of you.

                              DAISUKE

                    He has done nothing but good for

                    us.

                              KENTA

                    It doesn't matter. You cannot

                    change who he is.

          Yamato struggles up to sits in the chair.

                              YUUTO

                    How did you survive?

                              YAMATO

                    I did get gunned down but they sent

                    me to the hospital before sending

                    me off to prison. I probably was

                    shot about six times, I can't

                    remember. I was in prison for five

                    years. I made my way back here and

                    met up with Gii.

                              YUUTO

                    Gii? He's still around?

                              YAMATO

                    No, he killed himself.

          Yuuto looks away.

                              YUUTO

                    Why?

                              YAMATO

                    Well, he was the original weapon

                    snatcher. You remember how we used

                    to make weapons and things when we

                    were younger. He made his way to

                    Tokyo a year and a half ago. He

                    made this elaborate plan and made

                    the neurotoxin. I didn't help him

                    during those times but he hid the

                    weapons in our apartment. When I

                    found out that he killed himself, I

                    really didn't know how to act. Gii

                    and I were the closest from our

                    group. I wanted to continue where

                    he left off.

          Kenta turns to Daisuke.

                              KENTA

                    Was the man we found named Gii?

                              DAISUKE

                    I'm not sure. I'll have to check

                    with Ogawa.

                              KENTA

                    Do so, now.

                              DAISUKE

                    Yes, sir.

          Daisuke leaves.

          Yamato leans in towards Yuuto.

                              YAMATO

                    So, I have a question for you? Why

                    were you at the museum? Are you

                    working for the same people who

                    screwed Sensei out of everything?

                              YUUTO

                    It's not like that.

                              YAMATO

                    Sensei always told us not to trust

                    the government. That's why we did

                    what we were trained to do.

                              YUUTO

                    I know what Sensei taught us. I

                    never agreed with everything he

                    said though.

                              YAMATO

                    Like what?

                              YUUTO

                    Killing innocent people. In the

                    last month, I have seen what

                    killing guilty people can do to

                    someone. It's not okay to kill

                    anyone, innocent or not.

                              YAMATO

                    You never had trouble with it

                    before.

                              YUUTO

                    Because it was never me doing the

                    killing.

                              YAMATO

                    That doesn't make any sense.

                              YUUTO

                    I have multiple personalities.

          Yamato looks at him strangely.

                              YUUTO

                    My body killed when I wasn't in

                    control.

                              YAMATO

                    Why did you never tell us?

                              YUUTO

                    You didn't need to know. I wasn't

                    even sure what was wrong. I didn't

                    find out until two years ago. I

                    thought I was just schizophrenic

                    but the personalities could take

                    over. I don't even know how I

                    developed it.

                              YAMATO

                    Did you tell Sensei?

                              YUUTO

                    I mentioned it and he told me to

                    not to worry about it.

                              YAMATO

                    I don't understand how I was your

                    friend all those years and you

                    never said anything.

                              YUUTO

                    I didn't want you or anybody else

                    to get involved in my personality

                    problems.

                              YAMATO

                    That's not an excuse!

                              YUUTO

                    Please, don't be angry.

                              YAMATO

                    You turned your back on us, you

                    kept something about yourself

                    secret from us, and now you are a

                    government agents! Why should I not

                    be angry?

          Yuuto's head falls for a split second before he covers his

          ears and he starts to whine.

                              YAMATO

                    Stop that!

          Yamato limps over to Yuuto and pulls him up by his shirt.

                              YAMATO

                    Stop it!

          Yamato punches him to the ground.

                              YUUTO(NOBORO)

                    Don't hurt me, please!

                              YAMATO

                    Stop whining! You were always

                    whining for no reason!

                              YUUTO(NOBORO)

                    Stop!

                              YAMATO

                    You're nothing like I thought you

                    were! Why did I trust you!

                              YUUTO(NOBORO)

                    Stop!

          Daisuke runs in to see Kenta who is focused on Yuuto and

          Noboro.

                              DAISUKE

                    The weapon snatcher we found was

                    Gii. He told the truth. We also

                    have his apartment address. Shinobu

                    and I are going there to check it

                    out.

                              KENTA

                    You might want to wait.

          Daisuke looks over to watch Yamato beating on Yuuto.

                              DAISUKE

                    Why are you allowing this to

                    happen?

          Kenta is silent. Daisuke runs out of the room.

          Yamato raises his fist for another punch when Daisuke runs

          into the room and aims his gun at Yamato.

                              DAISUKE

                    Don't move!

          Yamato releases Yuuto who is unconscious and bloody. Yamato

          stands, leaning on the wall for support, and faces Daisuke.

                              YAMATO

                    Are you going to shoot me?

                              DAISUKE

                    Lay another hand on him and I will.

                              YAMATO

                    I know where the weapons are, you

                    couldn't shoot me even if you

                    wanted to.

                              DAISUKE

                    I'll blow your other kneecap off if

                    you piss me off one more time.

                    Ujima Yamato, we know where you

                    live and we are going to take you

                    there so you can show us where you

                    are keeping the weapons. If you

                    don't cooperate, I will take the

                    honor of making sure you don't walk

                    again.

                              YAMATO

                    So much vengeance for nothing.

                              DAISUKE

                    You injected neurotoxin into my

                    fiance two nights ago. I want to

                    kill you for harming her but I'm

                    not going to let my emotions get in

                    my way of finishing what I started

                    a year ago.

                              YAMATO

                    You're not going to take me

                    anywhere.

          Daisuke shoots Yamato's other knee and he falls.

                              DAISUKE

                    I warned you not to piss me off.

                    You almost killed my fiance, you

                    beat up my friend and colleague,

                    and you are going to cost me my job

                    if you don't f*****g cooperate!

                              YAMATO

                    Fine! I'll go with you.

          Daisuke puts his gun away and goes to cuff Yamato. Kenta

          walks in the room. Daisuke helps Yamato up and sees Kenta.

                              DAISUKE

                    Now do you see? Yuuto didn't have

                    anything to do with him! He better

                    be sent off to the hospital to be

                    treated or I will quit and so will

                    Ogawa! 

          Daisuke drags Yamato out of the room. Kenta looks down at 

          Yuuto.

          EXT. PARK. NOON.

          Kazuo is sitting on a bench. He is holding a picture of a

          younger Kiyomi, around maybe the age of twenty. An older

          lady comes up and sits next to him. He slides away from her.

          She looks over at him and down at the picture.

                              LADY

                    She's lovely. Let me guess,

                    girlfriend?

                              KAZUO

                    No...um, sister.

                              LADY

                    Oh, I'm sorry. She must be a very

                    sweet girl.

                              KAZUO

                    She is.

                              LADY

                    I'm sorry if I'm being nosey, but

                    you look sad when you look at her.

                    Why is that?

                              KAZUO

                    She's engaged to someone who I

                    don't exactly get along with. He

                    kicked me out of her hospital room

                    because he said I didn't know what

                    my sister wanted.

                              LADY

                    Why do you not get along with him?

                              KAZUO

                    I knew when I first met him but now

                    I'm not so sure. He has changed

                    since I first met him and maybe

                    that's why I don't know now.

                              LADY

                    Does you sister trust him?

                              KAZUO

                    She agreed to the engagement so I

                    guess she does.

                              LADY

                    Then why question her judgment?

          Kazuo is silent.

                              LADY

                    If she is happy with him, you

                    should trust her judgment. My

                    brother was the same way when I got

                    engaged.

                              KAZUO

                    Really?

                              LADY

                    Yes. He never liked my husband and

                    I knew that. As the years went by,

                    I didn't know if he grew to liking

                    him or he just tolerated him to

                    make me happy but he saw that I was

                    happy with him and I will never

                    forget what he said to me. He said

                    'I might not like him but you love

                    him more than anything and I can

                    accept that.' My mind was at ease

                    after he said that rather he liked

                    my husband or not. If you are

                    afraid that she will not love you,

                    she could never let you go.

                    Siblings hold a special connection

                    that no one else can understand.

                    She will always hold a special

                    place in your heart for you.

                              KAZUO

                    You really think so?

                              LADY

                    I still love my brother. He's my

                    family after all. He's the only

                    family I have left. I've outlived

                    both of my children and my husband

                    so he's all I have left.

          An older man comes up to both of them and holds out his hand

          for the woman.

                              MAN

                    Are you ready sister?

                              LADY

                    Yes.

          She takes his hand and stands. She looks back at Kazuo.

                              LADY

                    Go to your sister and tell her how

                    you feel. If she is happy,

                    shouldn't that be enough to make

                    you happy?

          The lady and her brother walk away from him. Kazuo takes

          another look at his sister's picture.

          INT. YAMATO'S APARTMENT. NOON.

          Daisuke, Shinobu and Ryoichi are searching through the small

          apartment. Yamato is sitting on the bed. Shinobu examines

          the floorboards. He knocks on one that is loose. He pulls

          out a pocketknife and picks the floorboard up. He reaches

          around in the hole and feels something. He pulls his hand

          back and realizes his fingers are cut.

                              SHINOBU

                    Guys, pull up the floorboards.

          Daisuke and Ryoichi go over to help him pull up the boards.

          They remove a few others before they reveal the stolen

          weapons. Yamato sneaks his hands under his pillow as they

          pull out the weapons.

                              DAISUKE

                    There should be either twelve or

                    thirteen.

                              YAMATO

                    Don't move, any of you.

          The three of them look to see Yamato pointing a gun at him

          with his hands still cuffed behind his back.

                              YAMATO

                    Those weapons are Gii's possession.

                              DAISUKE

                    They were stolen by you and him.

                              YAMATO

                    They belong to us!

          Yamato shoots but misses when they all duck. Ryoichi pulls

          out his gun quickly and shoots Yamato between the eyes.

                              RYOICHI

                    I hate dumbasses with guns.

                              DAISUKE

                    Let's just get all of these weapons

                    back to headquarters.

          They start to collect the weapons.

          INT. HOSPITAL. MID-AFTERNOON/NIGHT.

          Yuuto is sitting in a hospital bed with a blank stare on his

          face. He is cleaned up with bandages on the side of his

          mouth and forehead. The door slides open and he looks over.

          He sees Ninette and pulls his knees up and buries his face.

          She reaches inside her purse and pulls out a small present.

          She walks over to him and sits on the bed.

                              NINETTE

                    Rei?

          Yuuto looks up, his eyes are filled with tears.

                              NINETTE

                    I'm sorry for hitting you earlier.

                    I know I messed Yuuto up a little

                    more but I want to help him. The

                    only way to help him is for him to

                    know what made him the way he is.

                    Do you understand?

          Yuuto nods. Ninette pulls out some tissues from her purse

          and wipes Yuuto's tears. He pulls back.

                              NINETTE

                    Rei, can I speak to Yuuto?

                              YUUTO

                    You are.

          Ninette pulls her hand back and looks away.

                              YUUTO

                    I know you are trying to help me

                    and I appreciate it.

                              NINETTE

                    Then why have you been ignoring me?

                              YUUTO

                    It is hard to explain.

                              NINETTE

                    No, please tell me!

          Yuuto stretches his legs out and looks out of the window.

                              YUUTO

                    The day you took me to the

                    psychologist, the memory of my

                    father's death came back to me. The

                    woman in the blue dress stabbed my

                    father in the neck. When you killed

                    Shizuka, you killed her in the same

                    manner the lady did my father. I

                    ignored you because every time I

                    saw you, it reminded me of the

                    memory. It was hard to be around

                    you because of that. I hate it

                    because every time I think I'm

                    ready for you to touch me,

                    something pulls me away from you! I

                    don't know what it is that I feel

                    but I feel it for you! I don't know

                    how to show it because it has never

                    been shown to me! I love you,

                    Ninette!

          Ninette looks at him.

                              NINETTE

                    What?

                              YUUTO

                    You are the first person to

                    actually care about me. I have

                    never met a person that wants to

                    help me as much as you. I know it

                    is not right for me to feel this

                    way about you but I can't help it.

                    I want to be able to not be afraid

                    when you touch me. I want to be

                    touched by someone without feeling

                    like I'm being hurt. I don't want

                    anything to push me away from you

                    anymore. I don't want to ignore the

                    help anymore. I want help!

          Ninette throws her arms around his neck and holds him

          tightly. He tenses up and grabs her shoulders to try to push

          her away but gives in. He cries into her shoulder and tears

          run down her face.

          Later that night, Kazuo is sitting by the bed holding

          Kiyomi's hand. Kiyomi's eyes open slowly. She looks over at

          Kazuo and sits up.

                              KAZUO

                    Kiyomi.

          Kiyomi pulls the oxygen mask off of her face.

                              KIYOMI

                    Have you been here the whole time?

                              KAZUO

                    I've been here when Daisuke hasn't.

                    He doesn't want me in here with

                    you.

          Kiyomi looks away.

                              KAZUO

                    I'm giving my blessing to you and

                    Daisuke.

          Kiyomi looks at him, astonished.

                              KAZUO

                    Last night, he said something that

                    struck me. He said 'you may think

                    you know why your sister wants but

                    you don't.' He kicked me out of

                    your room after that. I saw how

                    much passion he had for you and how

                    protective he was for you, it made

                    me look selfish. Earlier today, I

                    had sort of a revelation. I finally

                    realized that Daisuke cares for you

                    more than anything, and I respect

                    that. He wouldn't have left this

                    morning if Watanabe-san didn't

                    force him to leave.

                              KIYOMI

                    Are you sure you're not just

                    telling me this so you won't lose

                    me?

                              KAZUO

                    I'm trying to get you back. I did

                    lose you and I don't want to lose

                    you again. I see now that you trust

                    him and that your judgment now is

                    better than before. I see that now.

                    I might not like him but you love

                    him more than anything and I can

                    accept that. Please forgive me,

                    Kiyomi.

          The door opens and Kiyomi looks up. Kazuo looks at the door

          and sees Daisuke. Kazuo stands and kisses Kiyomi's forehead.

          He walks towards Daisuke and bows to him.

                              KAZUO

                    Take care of my sister. The two of

                    you deserve each other.

          Daisuke looks confused as Kazuo passes him to leave the

          room. Daisuke quickly moves towards Kiyomi and hugs her.

                              DAISUKE

                    You're awake. I thought I was going

                    to lose you.

                              KIYOMI

                    I'm not going anywhere.

          She wraps her arms around him. They separate and Daisuke

          sits beside her. She lays her head on his chest.

                              KIYOMI

                    My brother gave us his blessing. He

                    has finally accepted you.

                              DAISUKE

                    I'm glad you got what you wanted.

                              KIYOMI

                    He's the only family I have left. I

                    need him in my life.

                              DAISUKE

                    I understand. I'm just glad you are

                    okay.

          Kiyomi smiles and closes her eyes.

          MONTAGE.

          As the following scenes happen, the credit song will be

          playing.

          Shinobu returns home, his hand wrapped in a bandage. Natsumi

          runs to him and hugs him. Her pregnancy is starting to show

          a little. She looks at his hand but he assures her its okay.

          She brings him to the kitchen and sits him down at the table

          and serves him food. They both smile at each other.

          At Kazuo's house, Ryoichi and Yumiko are playing with

          Ken'ichi on the bed. Ken'ichi jumps up onto Ryoichi. Yumiko

          pulls him off and starts to tickle him. All of them show so

          much joy. Yumiko holds Ryoichi's hand and they smile at each

          other.

          Kazuo is looking out into the city from a bridge. He takes

          out his wallet and opens it up to look at a picture of Jun

          and Haru. He looks back out with a smile on his face.

          Daisuke is helping Kiyomi walk through the halls of the

          hospital. She trips but he catches her. He picks her up and

          carries her. They exchange smiles as he continues to carry

          her to her room.

          Ninette is sitting next to Yuuto facing him. He has fallen

          asleep. She opens the present from earlier which is a

          jewelry box. She opens it to reveal a gold ring on a chain.

          She closes is and places it in his open hand.

          The music ends.

          Ninette smiles. She pulls out her phone and dials. She holds

          it up to her ear and waits or a second. Her father's voice

          is heard. The next conversation is in French.

                              ALBERT

                         (over phone)

                    Hello?

                              NINETTE

                    Father.

                              ALBERT

                         (over phone)

                    Ninette!? Are you alright!? Are you

                    hurt!?

                              NINETTE

                    I won't be coming home. I have

                    everything I need right here.

                              ALBERT

                         (over phone)

                    Ninette, wait...!

          Ninette closes the phone and breaks it. A tear rolls down

          her face as she pulls out a picture of her father from her

          purse and rips it in half.

          INT. SEICHII'S HIDEOUT. NIGHT.

          Seichii is sitting at his desk looking very unhappy. A

          suited yakuza agent is standing before him with a folder.

                              AGENT

                    Fujiwara and Minoto are dead.

                    Akachi and our main supplier of

                    weapons have been arrested. All

                    that is left now is your's and your

                    father's sectors.

                              SEIICHI

                    This is bullshit. How could they

                    have found us so easily?

                              AGENT

                    We have dug up some information on

                    each of the members of the team

                    that were sent after us.

                              SEIICHI

                    And?

          The agent opens up the folder and starts to read, flipping

          through the pages after each member.

                              AGENT

                    Uchida Daisuke is the leader. Known

                    family leaves in Sapporo. Currently

                    involved with Ishikawa Kiyomi.

                    Ogawa Shinobu is a forensic
