She cries

She cries

A Poem by Devyani

She wakes up every morning

With a looming regret over her bed

It's like the crumpled sheets can never hold

The solace she seeks in an empty space

She's no more who she used to be

A woodpecker pecked away her first love

She isn't who she used to be

The smiling face which could beat peaches and cream

The prep girl everyone used to love

The homecoming queen everyone envied

She isn't herself anymore; she is just a mind numbing Xerox

The golden blonde hair stripped down to a coal raven mane

And the blue eyes that lost their sparkle months ago.

She isn't the one who could make the room light up

She isn't the one who could make a frown upside down

She isn't herself anymore

She isn't who she used to be

It's like the destined winds set sail without her

As though the bright light future was just a train at the end of the tunnel

Crashed, wrecked and not so fun anymore

Nothing one could point at and blame

A house of cards that blew away with the wind

Wrecking havoc with a girl's life; a life well missed

What can they say as they see her all alone in the corner?

They tried to be her only solace but the shining steel couldn't beat their luster

She's bleeding red when they all thought her blood was blue

That's all they can make up of her life anymore

She's out of excuses and out of answers

But the questions never cease to stop

An anchored guilt and a buoy of life

She has no choice any more

She's given in to the guilt

She's given in to the pain

And she can cry as much as she wants

But the world would never know what the tears are meant for

No she doesn't cry a river for the ones she loves

Neither does she mourn over the one she loved

She cries for herself; she cries for the path she left half trodden.

A powerful poem. Many strong points made in the poem. A strong ending to a powerful poem. Thank you.

that makes me sad and afraid... also, it makes me want to re-evaluate things. to re-check myself... it reflects my raw fears of my own future.

.
sometimes we set ourselves impossible standards or others do..in this we then feel undervalued when we fail to meet these objectives or heights..this was really insightful and thought provoking
