When We Were Gods

When We Were Gods

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Just about the feeling of going into the so callled "real world" after leaving school.

"

The days were full of moments of fate
The nights were scenes of destiny
And nothing else mattered outside our world
We were Kings and Queens, the immortal gods
The now was all we could ever want to see
We were expressive, we were free

We never thought that it would one day end
We'd loose, love, befriend and change
Like the immoral gods, we met and ironic end
We believed ourselves invincible until time proved us wrong
Reality eventually brought us down from our Olympus
No longer so regal and invincible, far from our pond in this big sea
Even though we had the ability of foresight, we failed to see it coming

We are now brought down to earth, quite mortal
Time becomes routine and deadline*
Fate and destiny became finite, replaced with Cesarean tribute and decisions

We sometimes find solace in the company of other fallen deities
We recite the fading epic poems of the immortals we once were
Drinking nectar that once flowed free like a river
We laugh and smile in our time of remembrance
Realizing that there is more to this world
Then that short spec of time when we were gods
