Middle School Jesus

Middle School Jesus

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

About a kid who was sent home because he dressed as Jesus for Halloween '08

"

He didn't come to change the world
He didn't come to bring controversy or scorn
He just wanted to run and play
Middle School Jesus was an innocent on their cross

His mother Mary sent him to school that day
Dress to fit in with the festivities of the day
Not worried or thinking to warn
About his crown of thorns
Kiss him sweetly and sent him on his way
To join the crowds of Galilee Elementary
Middle School Jesus would soon become a symbol of their intolerance

Middle School Jesus did not go there to be a magi
Even as his friends said he looked the part of savior
No parables or prophecy to teach
He just wanted to frolic with the assembled gentry
But when the zealots of PC saw this mini Jesus copy
They sought to kill any possibility
That Middle School Jesus could be more than he seems
Middle School Jesus would be found guilty of causing fear

They took him to Principle Pilot
The charged him with offenses to the common good
Principal Pilot said that he must concede
Middle School Jesus did nothing wrong
But he must be banished and sent home
According to the PC law he has done a great harm
Middle School Jesus has seen his last day

They called his father to bring him home
Poor Middle School Jesus sent away in scorn
He asked his father will there ever be a day
That I could return in this way
He said it takes many life times for prejudice and fear to die
Middle School Jesus had a lot on his mind

They tucked him in a kissed him goodnight
He slept and dreamed about when he would rise in three days
To be amongst his friends with no scorn
No more crown of thorns
To frolic and play away from the PC zealotry
Middle School Jesus was just a little boy

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
I wrote this about a kid who got kicked out of school on Haloween for dressing up like Jesus (with crown of thorns.) People told the kid he looked like Jesus, and it was an innocent costume. I think it's rediculous that the kid couldn't wear the costume. It seems that people want anything Christian removed from society. I'm not saying church ans state should mere, all I'm saying is be tolerant. It's not like the kid came dressed as Hitler.
