A Woman

A Woman

A Poem by Christian Bonoan
"

In celebration of the Women's Month.

"

I am beautiful, strong, and smart

but they all took me for granted

for I am just a woman

weak, wounded, with lips of red

They smashed and loved me

though my body is all they like

I was locked in a shell for years

so dark, just my tears shine

I've been used, torn, and burned

but I picked up all my pieces

I rose with all my flaws

stronger, as I wiped my lips of red

I am stronger! I am a fighter!

I live with the heart of a warrior

no pain can control my soul

and I never again will fall

I am a woman, one with words

of respect and of dignity

I will live with my own commands

just like the men in this world

Powerful and wonderful words. I'm a wise man. I know woman rule the world. They are the teachers to our children. Teacher of love and kindness. Your words. worthwhile and true. Thank you Christian for sharing the amazing poetry and thoughts.

wow. so powerful. reminds me of that song 'I am Woman' by Helen Reddy. this reads like a creed or oath for all women. where would we be without them? bravo!

This is strong courageous and really deep and meaningful piece.
Quite inspiring and uplifting.
I like the end part, Just like the men in this world.
I like that because woman well not all woman are weak and some are very strong just as strong as a guy.
Great write keep writing :)

In some places this is a declaration of power that is seen as revolutionary or even subversive. Excellent battle cry.

As reader, I find little context. Obviously, I'm not a woman, so that influences, but look at the first stanza as a reader. The first two lines are at war. If the speaker truly is "beautiful, strong, and smart," how can they be taken for granted by anyone? Added to that, we never learn who "they" are, or why they took this person "for granted."

So for you, who have both context and intent the words of the poem resonate. But context must be given or at least evoked, and intent doesn't make to to the page. So the reader can only take meaning from the words based on what they suggest to a given reader, based on THEIR background and experience.

Seems to me that this is too much an overview. Better to focus on an ant at the picnic in razor sharp detail than present a watercolor of the grove, if the ant embodies the spirit of your message.

Truly amazing! I appreciate your write-up about a woman describing her ups and downs. The last paragraph is very much the need of the hour- wherein every human being should be treated as equal.
Thank you so much for sharing such beautifully written poem!

You're welcome
Brought tears to my eyes.... outstanding! We have made amazing progress in this country, (although I don't know, that's about to change and woman won't have the right to choose pro abortion, that's taking us back 50 years!). Hopefully progress will spread worldwide in time...
I've been used, torn, and burned
but I picked up all my pieces

Keep writing :)

Thanks Hebe! i appreciate your review so much.
Nice defensive write on the side of females. Yet, man is the head, woman is the heart. Can't live without either. Valentine
