FireflyA Poem by Brenden MoranThe misty landscape swayed with the rain And the thick grass ran untamed Sprinkling drops across the grassy ocean Trees bobbed side to side in willing commotion The night air ran through my loose clothes The smell completed my senses with musky rose Flowers popped up like lights from the town And the brushing wind swept across without a sound Fireflies swam into the wet sunset air And they frolicked about in their love affair Their buzz lit up like red stars against the black skyline Down they came and we as one intertwined Circling about, until they reached the moving sky Above the night green trees they did fly Their multitude landed upon every tree To each leaf as far as my eyes could see They engulfed the forest that surrounded my meadow And on they buzzed with their joyous, crackling echo Light filled every pedal and patch of grass But the trueness of this solemn story is with me alas My fireflies filled not the air, topping my trees But it is flames that now quell my grassy seas My only wish is to catch a little firefly in my jar And a thousand landscapes will I mar To catch my firefly and hold her in my hands Oh firefly, I know you are the one who understands © 2012 Brenden MoranAuthor's Note
