RemberingA Poem by Brenden MoranThe sheet placed over us as children Or the Volkswagen I chilled in The never-ending high school dances Or the six month stupid romances The blanket castles in my room Or dressing up in my costumes The dreams of astronauts and policemen Or the singers, doctors and statesmen The fights with parents and siblings Or the coloring book scribbling’s The summer sun and vacations Or the Monday morning salutations The endless days of pointless schooling Or being in the highchair drooling The drivers permit right at sixteen Or out of the house by eighteen The thoughts about how she is the one Or thinking that this is more than done The nights staying up past bedtime Or writing a line with a great rhyme The day of my first kiss and how it felt Or the first poker game I dealt The first night I snuck out of my window Or the time I told my parents “no” The graduation with magna cum laude Or at the beach showing off my bod Thinking back on these, some would call it a trifling But for me, I think there is no harm in remembering © 2012 Brenden MoranAuthor's Note
