Winter Games

A Poem by Brett Hernan

In the (Winter-oriented) game of,
'Indoor Floor Tennis',
each player uses, in the place of a racquet,
a rubber thong, (left or right), to strike a variably,
larger or smaller, tennis-ball sized, aluminium ball
made from a hand-crushed

collection of foil squares,
(five by five centimeter),
which has been covered by a single,
aluminium sheet of foil
skin as an outer.

This ball may be equipped
with an optional core
composed of assorted floor garbage
like empty bread bags
or a white paper milk-bar pie bag.

The object of the game,
is for each player to alternately strike
the floor-bound ball, which remains 'in play'
for as long as the ball remains in motion,
with their thong, alternately.

The player, who allows the ball
to become motionless,
(failing to have successfully propelled it
by striking it, whilst it is in still in the state
of being in motion, (and therefore, in play),
concedes a point to the other.

The size of the field
on which the game play
may take place
may be determined variably,
as per the desire of the player(s)
and the constrictions
of available appropriate
game play floor space.

Scoring is open-ended
with winner, (or winning team),
ultimately thus decided
at the
end of play.
