A Thousand Birds With One Stone

A Poem by Brjden (Bridge-Den) Crewe
"

ONE ACTION....and the consequences unseen by this action that can affect so many others and so many situations around us. I hope you likes.....

"

I heard your voice through a photograph
I thought it up it brought up the past
Once you know you can never go back

Ive got to take it on the otherside    - Red Hot Chilli Peppers, “Otherside”

Now if I'm gonna kill this man, with this gun in my hand

You have to understand the consequences coming with this plan

So let's say I hit this man up (click, POW!!)

And so now, his son is raised without his father in the house

Brian's the son & he keeps to hisself

His mother can't control him, so she reaches for the bottle on the shelf

He's growing & she's drinking, now she's looking even shorter

And Mrs. Porter, up the block, said he KNOCKED UP HER DAUGHTER!!

Her daughter now, is looking like her body's out of order

Cause her belly's growing out the fitted sweater that she bought her

Brian told, Mrs. Porter that the kid wasn't his

Now the unborn is forced to LIVE THE SAME AS HE DID!

The daughter cried, Brian's mother tried, but he didn't care

Cause after all, it was the norm, because his dad wasn't there!

So Mrs. Porter's daughter had twins, a boy and a girl

Kim & Troy introduced

               to a fatherless world!!!

Brian was murdered when they were six, nothing really did change

But Mrs. Porter's daughter turned to crack to deal with the pain

Of raising two kids that's fatherless in South Illinois

Troy was bad and thin,

                   and as for Kim?....

Her slim, body at 10 looked just like a boy

Then she started

Double "D"-veloping fast like Kodak polaroids!

The boys started grabbed their c***s in anticipation of "no strings, no kissing and/or no wedding ring" penetration biting their fist, to her milkshaking walk past them making her being surrounded by no potential Kings a raving frustration

She deemed them unworthy with their child-like titillations

And at 16, thinking she's reached the peak of her maturation....

She meets Jason, a 28 year old, pro at baby making

While Kim's "fast a*s" was half dressed at the bus station

Jason has six, "illegitimates" and no benefits

Jobless "rock artist" but plays "Guitar Hero" like Hendrix

And so Kim fell in love, and Jason's in "lust"

So for him, Kim was JUST YOUNG P***Y TO F**K!

Kim didn't know it but, she's really searching for her daddy

But now.... she'll repeat her mom's

pregnancy sadly

As for Troy, the streets called and he answered with pleasure

The fast money sounded "chill", so he followed the weather

Got a gun, found a store

"MAKE EM REACH FOR THE SKY!!"

"GIVE UP THE MONEY OR I SWEAR TO GOD

TODAY YOU WILL DIE!!"

Mr. Brown wasn't quick enough, so he got killed

left behind a wife and 4 kids to grieve,

                            but still....

It took the cops about a week to find Troy from the clues

With his prints as evidence, his FACE was front page news!

Mr. Johnson saw the news and it's sad to see

Thinking, "I'm at that store all the time, That could've been me!!"

Mr. Johnson is a manager and he's looking to pay

a new potential candidate he's interviewing later today

The candidate's name is Jay, and frankly he can't wait

To come and show Mr. Johnson, his shining resume'

Mr. Johnson met Jay and was honestly stunned

Because JAY LOOKED ALOT LIKE THE KID WITH THE GUN!

Who was all over the news and killed poor Mr. Brown

Who left his wife and 4 kids.....and 1 grandchild

He can't help but to see Troy when he sees Jay

Same race, same look and now, same disgrace!

"I'M SORRY JAY" he would say

with a halfway smile

WE HIRED ANOTHER CANDIDATE,

WE'LL KEEP YOUR INFO ON FILE!"

So now Jay goes home to his family and starts packing

cause the evictional notice said

                           the Sheriff's coming at ten

The bills were really stacking and the money's really gone

And now, his family's gone without a plan or a home

I could go on and on.....

Brian's dead, he was shot in the head, his mother drinks "Remy Red" just to get her to bed, and Mrs. Porter was reluctantly lead to take care of the kids after her daughter became an addict after what Brian did, and Kim had Jason's seventh kid, soon after, he said "hasta la vista" to search for more spread legs, Troy rests his head on a state property bed serving 25 to life, while Mrs. Brown begs that her family gets to see that b*****d eventually dead, but Mr. Brown rests in peace, as for Jay, he says that his wife and kids left and moved in with her dad while he searches for a way to go make a little bread, Mr. Johnson now dreads men that looks like Jay or Troy and for that misfortune that employment is dead......

so if I gotta kill this man

with this gun in my hand

do i understand the consequences

COMING WITH THIS PLAN?!?!

And so it's to be said, think about what you do

Because you never know when "consequences"

WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!!

Author's Note

Brjden (Bridge-Den) Crewe
So Ellen Degeneres is one of my favorite comedians. In one of her segments on a special she had, she talks about wanting to get some cheese, then talks herself out of it after weighing all the consequences that could occur by going to the store to get the cheese. The consequences were funny and absurd, but I wanted to do something more true to life by ONE ACTION having serious consequences that sometimes can't be seen directly. I hope you enjoy....

This is great.
What would have been awesome would be if the whole thing came right back to the man with the gun, but you kind of hint at the end to that so maybe a connection would be unnessacary...anyhow, this is a great poem!
And now I see what you're talking about, dare I ever say anything like that again!!:)
This is definitely a new topic, a refreshing topic and a sad one too. Although its true, every little thing you do has dire consequences, and people don't exactly realize this. Its always a shame. Great job, and keep sending me read requests, I always enjoy reading what you write each and every time I come away with a new out look on the topic and and/or a great feeling in the pit of my stomach or elsewhere :)
You are a wonderful poet and I still think you should come perform at the apache in atlanta if you're ever in the neighborhood!

And the moral of the story is....
Bridgey, you've done it again.
I wish we could put this poem in the school books for the children to read.
I wish we could put this poem in every adult's inbox/mailbox...
This is the effin' business.
Beautifully told. Bruisingly poignant and oh so eloquently done as only you can...

This sort of reminded me of Crash...just the idea that one action can completely alter another person's entire life, and how the whole web just kind of spreads out like a mushroom cloud. Everybody today is so focused on their own actions and what the repercussions mean to them...they forget that the realm extends beyond their own well-being. This could really spark some change, I think. And I'm sure you've got the voice to give it the "oomph" it needs to really hit home for the people who need this message. A fine write, indeed. Of course, typical of your skills and poetic prowess.

Sort of reminds me of the Butterfly effect. You have a way of mesmerizing your audience. I loved the rhythm to this.

you really did us all a major service by giving life to the fact that consequences don't end at the initial victim. one false move and there begins a generational decay for all of these, unbeknownst to them, interrelated characters. excellent depiction of irresponsibility and senseless violence. i think i might have to add this to my library...

ONce again the performance is easy to visualize :) It kind of reminded me of the move "CRASH" where everyone in the story is linked to a common event that happened.

Nice one!

You've got a superb narrative skill, you masterfully show the consequences rippling out and your characterisation is amazing. You vividly show how hate can only beget hate and anger beget anger. I especially liked:

Her daughter now, is looking like her body's out of order
Cause her belly's growing out the fitted sweater that she bought her

As with all your work, the images and rhythm are exquisite.

I really love this, the story within the poem was so true to life and you told it completely uncensored 'The way it is'. Bravo!! Amazingly, its true. One action big/small the dstruction that can be left in its wake. It makes me think of this, a few months ago my friend saw a girl we both know in the city on a wednesday and that weekend she was out in th pub with us[my friend] and she mentioned seeing her [maria] and her sister was in the pub and overheard us saying it. Maria got in shitloads of trouble because she had been in the city with her boyfriend, he gave her a black eye last year and for her own good evry1 told her break up with him...the same day her sis had babysat her 2 kids while 'Maria was in college' and her Mam had loaned her 100euro to pay for college book...her college is in Waterford City, she was seen in Cork City....over my friend mentioning one tiny fragment of info Maria's sister isnt speaking to her as she had cancelled an interview that day to help her out and now with Irelands recession and the lack of jobs she's very pissed off, she lied to her mam to get money and her mams pissed off with her and Maria wont speak to my friend either because 'she told on her' even tho sh didnt!!!!!!

So i know what u mean, and the piece is really well told!!!!! would DEFINITELY make u think bout small actions and even more BIG BIG ones...

WOW! The story alone is amazing, but to put it in a poem is... uh, what comes after "amazing"?
I'm especially in awe of how the end wraps back to the beginning. Brilliant story-telling.
