With Flowers in her Hair.

With Flowers in her Hair.

A Poem by BeatricePortinari.
"

My best friend was hurt and now she's moving far, far away. All because of a boy with red in his eyes. I'llloveyouforeverandeverandeverCDB<3.

"

She was the girl with the flowers in her hair

He was the boy with the red in his eyes

She, with a heart like gold, fell prey to his lies

I wish now that I was stronger.

She looks, briefly, toward me as she walks away

I wish there were words left for me to use

But, darlings, it’s only for myself to lose

She, with daisies streaming from her eyes,

She stole my heart.

You, the boy in the cape, the one with the eyes,

You’re the one who broke what once was pure

Turned it into used and muddied all with your allure

That look in her eyes when you said goodbye,

That was the look of lost.

She turned into bone and pounds ran away,

Her eyes death wrapped in misery covered with despair,

Still you laughed upon her grave and stole away her air,

There was nothing left of her that she could see.

For years I would blame you, the one who called it true

You’re the one that showed her love only to throw it away

Now, although she seems to laugh, she’s only making her bed to lay

So I will curl my hands into simply to keep them away from you.

I look at her plate when she’s done with a meal

I hold her hand and cover the scars against her wrists,

I wish them away as she turns another twist

And I’m sorry for you now, because although you’re strong

The world has frowned against your name and done you wrong

I wish it had been different

We’d learned to love each other in the peace of nights,

But all I see when I look at you is a deep and endless fight

The night isn’t what scares you, it’s the things the day bestows.

The evil boy with the wonderful smile turns and makes you run

So now you’ve made your way from me and I’m simply left to say

I don’t want anything more from you than just another week to stay

Even though I wish it were easy, leaving you will never be something I’ll understand

Now she walks her slow and endless path

Blood trails down her gentle back,

Staining her white dress in all she lacks,

So now that’s how it’s doomed to be

She walks away as the boy smiles at me

The girl with flowers in her hair watches them fall with gentle eyes

The words she’s heard have all been lies

And if the truth is finally near,

There’s nothing of worth left for he here.

So I’ll say goodbye, my tears held tight

I’ll kiss her cheek for a million nights

And maybe I’ll get to hold her close

For this is just the first goodbye in a sea of thousands at most.

But I want the birds to know

That I wish for them to carry my song across the mountains,

Drop my words upon their fountains,

And make their way to her.

The sun from her smile will make their trip all worth the while

Because that girl, the one with flowers in her hair,

Is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and I will not forget what she taught me.

This is a very sad poem, but it's amazing. I love it! It's so filled with emotion because so many people have been hurt, or broken by someone else. You captured all that emotion so greatly(:

Very sad and filled with emotion. The burden of having to say goodbye can sometimes be the heaviest- "the first goodbye in a sea of thousands" does well to sum it up. Very nice.
