Brave Face

Brave Face

A Poem by Bryan_Himmel

I put on the brave face,
the one you always asked me to
I shouldered all your burdens,
to make sure you made your walk in grace

I fell down so you never had to
took the blame so no one touched you
felt all the pain so you wouldn't need to
all those nights you cried, I held you

honestly looking back I have to ask
why did tears ever even fall
you wore a convincing mask cause
really you did nothing at all

claimed no one was there to guide you
while I endured everything to stay true
mocked me as I stood behind you
the knife would of been so easy to guide through

I curse myself for the man I am
the one I was and one I could be
this darkness gets unsettling
my inner flames keep on flickering

you swore to always remember me
but I was gone quicker than the summer breeze
should've known you'd betray me
but damn you for doing it so subtly

this ache that blooms in my heart
leaves me cold and bitter in the dark
I knew eventually we'd grow apart
but still you had me from the start
