A small girl sat on her bed and cried. Life was difficult and she was unable to handle the pressure. She picked up a book and watched her tears soak into the pages and smear the ink. As the girl settled down, she began to read the page. Inside the book was her perfect world, the world she had always wanted to live. The girl's own world seemed to disappear around her and was replaced with the one she had been reading in the book. In her perfect world, she leaned up against a tree as she dug farther into the book. The wet grass tickled her bare toes and the trees blocked the sky. To her right was a rocky waterfall. The water flowed down the jagged rocks into a thin river that seemed to run forever. A doe appeared on the over side of the river. Her tail twitched as she watched the girl reading a book. The doe slowly walked toward the river to take a drink while making sure the girl didn't move. The girl intently read the book that had words that seemed to float from the pages. Making fiction seem like reality. A gentle wind blew into her world and several pages of her book were turned. Her perfect world changed to one of evil and devastation. In front of her on the rocky gravel was a man bleeding to death. A woman was next to him calling out for help but no one came but some men and women that had their hands bound together like slaves. They paid no attention the bleeding man or the woman. Suddenly, a shot burst through the air and the woman fell on top of the man. Her slivery hair covered the man's wound but that was the only thing that seemed to be beautiful. A man with the red eyes like the devil appeared but before anything could happen the girl slammed the book shut. The world disappeared and reality came back. Her room was the same but she was sweating and panting. The girl dropped her book on the floor and ran out of the room.
I feel the same when I read a book. I become so lost into it, and obsessed with the story that always seems to me, better than reality. I devour the books, reading them so fast that when I come to the end of them, it is a small shock and I realize that I was not a part of the wonderful story, just an observer, an outsider. The perfection wasn't really mine, and the end of your story expresses that personal feeling of mine beautifully. I love to read, but every time I am thrown back into reality, it becomes that much more terrifying. The world of books is a better place.
See how much your small story made me express? Great write. I think though, that you should try some poetry. I like your small stories, but with the way you write I think you'd be very good at moulding your short stories into a more poetic format. Just something you might want to try. :)
Don't stop writing, whatever format you use.
I feel the exact same way! Whenever I'm reading a good book, I get so absorbed into it, its as if I am in the book itself, watching everything happen from a first person point of voice.
I like the fact that even though your story is short in length, it isn't lacking in description. In fact, I found this very descriptive, which I always like. It helps readers really invision what is happening. I think you have talent, and please, keep writing, because I would love to read more of your works! :)
