Could Not Remember

Could Not Remember

A Poem by BrynnaW.

They laughed joyfully with you around,
They learned wisdom from your words,
And they loved your kind heart.
Like polished gold, you shined gloriously.

It came slowly but without pain,
Under those sheets, your body was dying,
Under those eye lids, you were searching.
Like the falling, you reached out.

Shallow breaths escaped your lips,
Color faded from your cheerful face,
The light was burned out from your eyes.
Like raging waters, your body trembled.

They mourned that you were gone,
They passed on the wisdom you taught,
And they still loved you from afar.
Like fading spring, you were missed.

But there was one who could not remember,
The one who only remembered the end,
The one who knew you for years.
Like dry wells, she never cried.

There is an agonizing story here... and pain beyond belief in the forgetting.. memories left behind in a place within the heart that the mind cannot fathom... Powerful.

I remember my grandfather this way and hear his voice to this very day on subjects of merit in my own life
