Addicted To You

Addicted To You

A Poem by Bubo
"

The evils of tobacco.........I am determined to give it up, but fear it will kill me!

"

I wonder how will it be

or when...............

will it be awful, will there be pain

I ask myself every day

questions when will it end

I only have myself to blame.

I play this roulette game

hypocrisy of an education

addictive as angels to heaven

Incredible when you think about it

slave to cravings

slave by the hour

Bargaining chips of mental power

I kid myself.........give up

perhaps not

maybe tomorrow or next month

just a front

release me demon of my blood

then give me up!

let me run with speed

then let go of your need

I have people I love

oh yeah.....so give us a shove!

You entice me, oh you know it's true

with your clever little nudges

but don't you know...

I'm on a budget?!

The only ash I see is the ash of me

scattered in ashtrays for my children to see

What a shame” they'll say

Such a waste” they'll say

I Agree”.......I'll shout, but they won't hear me

as I drift on rising curling smoke

I inhale

I exhale

filth

clinging to skin

within

I have asked for this

oodles of cash

stashed

Inside a government's bank

profiting from my dying lungs

why can't I see

its f*****g killing me

when I toss and turn

longing to be free.

oh I do understand~ I've had a love hate relationship with nicotine since I was 12~ I'd quit for years only to go back~ a shi**y and expensive addiction~ but what sweet calm with menthol inhale . . . .exhale stress~ did you know nicotine actually alters the chemistry of the brain?

IT IS A GREAT PIECE, Bubo !! Your honesty makes it real and relevant !
I vowed NEVER to smoke like the people around me, people who couldn't control that smelly habit, blowing money into the air, staring death in the face sooner than later...lol.
At 18 saw me somewhat rebelling against Society, and I needed to feel all grown-up...Peter Stuyvesant my first try and faithful companion for 3 years...and that is now 43 years ago !! It wasn't a battle to give up...I started to feel sick and dizzy every time I inhaled...and the love of my life hated me smoking, and God, yes, God, convicted me as well, teaching me that my body was the temple of his holy spirit ( and I was damaging that temple, my body ). I prayed for forgiveness and stopped...........and I am so very thankful.
It's a battle of the wills, Bubo...'the demon against you' !!

Well Bubo as my sons mother used to say, "you will live a long time with all the preservatives you have eaten and you are smoked too you may live a long time!" lol
I would write more but I got to go for a smoke! Two years about thirteen years ago was my longest stint of quiting. Applied Will Power or enjoy to your last breath your choice! Cheers!

Thanks. lol
I don't smoke. Nor ever will. I swear to that.
I liked this. It might not be perfect, but the meaning behind it is pretty wounding. I wish people wouldn't smoke. Their hurting themselves. And if they do have to then i'd prefer it if they didn't do it near me. lol
Hope you have some luck trying to give up.

thank goodness i don't smoke. but when i see my friends and strangers with that toxic stick........i just wonder, really? how can they be in love with something so filthy... but ah yes, the filthy, oh how we carve the baddddddddddd.

Bubo I hope you are able to quit. I've heard it's the hardest addiction to break. My Grandmother died due to smoking. I can remember countless ways she tried to quit. It broke my heart when she died. Wonderful poem.

Well done -

Does the cigarette filter alter the flavor of Death?

I am a smoker! LOL still I loved and agreed with the piece,
An advice tho? The best way to quit smoking is not to start it in the first place, so don't get into that one cigarette won't harm bullshit thinking! lol

All the best,
Tamer
